Saturday was a beautiful day here in Ohio, so I invited my friend Bill down to do some field hunts. We both made some good finds. Our first stop was a corn field that has given some good things up in the past. I found a couple of buttons and an elegant suspender buckle that was slightly bent. The best find was an eyeball find, an Archaic Period stone pestle. They call this type of pestle a Hoof Pestle due to its shape. This pestle dates from around 3,000 BC!
We moved on to another spot where last week I got the 1872 Indian and 1843 Large Cent.
More buttons here and two wheat cents, a 1919 and a 1909 were nice finds. My best find was an N/D Large Cent. I got small sliver of a good signal amidst trash and iron and at about 6” I saw on edge a green disc. It turned out to be a slicky Large Cent. From what I can make out I think it is a Classic Head but to be honest I don’t think we will know for sure.
