Decided to use the Stat mode today because this a site with lots of fill that goes back to the 1800's and finds are scarce. This mode scans twice the width of the motion modes and is a CANNON ON DEPTH. I got a signal that read 50, and would not even register on my motion all metal mode. Good thing I brought a big shovel, because the hole was, as the Sgt. Major says, "make a hole and make it wide." After cutting the 1st large plug I checked the sides, nothing on edge- I continued down, and enlarging the hole because that's where the detector said it was. At a certain point the signal was so strong I switched to Disc, DE, delta-pitch and stuck it down in the bottom and I got a very high pitch with an i.d. of 84 [quarter] with 4 more inches to go. I cut another plug checked it and had the target. When I broke open the clod I had a 1917 SL Quarter AND stuck to the bottom of the quarter a 1923 Mercury dime. I carefully filled the hole back in because this is an active baseball field [I had everything piled on a towel.] I also got an Indian cent from another hole.
I'm not even going to to mention the depth because it would be an estimate, and no one would believe it.
If you have a site that is hard hit but not produced anything lately, do a fast grab to get close, then go to a manual ground balance.
The Stat mode does drift, so you will need to continually retune. I hope FISHER in a future chip adds the very slightest of an auto-tune.
