A sign of desperation.

And the water was a balmy FREEZING(C or F degrees).

Alas all my local water has gained a hard attitude, so I'm scrounging. And this public boat launch is only a few years old, but what the heck, desperate detectoristas do desperate things. I had wanted to give the 10.5 HF DD some more time but this spot called for the 6 inch HF DD. And this place was trashy! The 6 inch HF DD does much better on beer bottle caps than the stock MF concentric. They vary all over the place ID wise, and I dug the first two to make sure, one Bud, one Heineken(I'm very international ).

Using that 6 inch HF DD is like nitro injection for the X-Terras. The target acquisition and release is so fast that a moderate swing speed in heavy trash sounds like machine gun fire. I had to slow way down for my ears to process everything that was going by, otherwise I felt like I was in the spin cycle.

I spent 3 hours in the water with the Dan Bailey lightweight waders, but this time I wore tight knit wool socks rather than poly liners and Sharkskins with 1/4 inch dive booties. And I have to say my feet were not only comfortable, but perfectly warm. I think I've found an excellent kit for this type of hunting and look forward to more cold water time.

And my physical finds were very meager, but spiritually it's great to out in the sunshine and fresh air!

BB..it looks like you needed an ice auger for some of those spots. That's desperation alright. I know how you feel, I have been walking around in snowshoes checking out potential sites....no swinging, just looking. Ron

There is an open water area close to home that I have been eyeing quite a bit lately! :help::detecting:

Enjoyed the post and way to tough out the weather. Not always about the finds, just getting out and doing something like you did is great! HH, Mike

BB,
You have balls ( before and after you entered the iced water:clapping: )
Yesterday it was 41.4C with a strong north wind, and I cancelled a hunting trip
to an old school ruin on private property.
You have shamed me into going today with similar conditions to yesterday.
happy hunting
