a short test spin with the noisy excal - 8"

i just got back from a 15 mins. test with both the 10" feb. excal II and the newer one i have had the problem with. set them both up the same way - exactly

took the perfect in every way 10" in first..................wonderful, even with my foot on top of it standing on the sand - under the water

now i take in the newer 8", but before i go to the beach, i replace the rubber gasket on the battery pop, add a touch of silicone grease ...............go out waist deep, clean area, not targets, good steady solid threshold................stick excal in the water, headphone plug first...............ok..................drop in..................ok.............take out throw in with force............ok................stand on it as i did with the other.................ok

what the hell does that little rubber washer do..................and in all the years i have had many excals. i have never used any silicone grease on those and they all worked ok.

f y i only

hopefully the next spin or dive this baby will perform as expected

THANKS EVERYONE FOR ALL YOUR COMMENTS AND HELP

Sure glad you got that straightened out. Now you have one for each hand. Think I will have to volunteer to do your digging, so I can learn some of you detecting secrets. Obviously, the Brylcream commercial was right, "a little dab will do ya". Just glad it worked out for you. Good luck hunting without the aggravation!!

The rubber gasket is what actually seals the pins and keeps the water from shorting the terminals. It fits tight around the individual posts. Then when you screw the connector onto the battery the gasket compresses and seals/isolates the pins from the water. It seals on both the connector side and on the battery side. The grease helps with the seal. Also always make sure there is no sand on the gasket before you screw the connector onto the battery.
