a sensitive dfx

New member
hi all,

I am in serious need of help.
the season is starting, and my dfx,
with the slightest bump,
resets as if the battery is removed.
I totally tore the whole thing apart,
cleaned the battery contacts and everything
else and bent them just slightly to increase
contact pressure with the batt pack,
did the same with the internals of the pack
and tightened the nuts that hold the contacts in place...

hoped it would at least improve...
but alas, to no avail, same results!

I would send it to white's for a full refurb,
but I am currently unemployed...

...I also have a dfx Bigfoot I need to rehab as it overloads the dfx anytime its powered up. there is a crack where the cord meets the coil where I'm sure moisture has entered despite cauking and epoxy... any advice on dissecting this thing without making it utterly unsalvageable?
obviously, I am fairly confident with
dismantling so self diagnosis is my
only option for a long time

any technical input is deeply appreciated

Have you checked the voltage on your bat pack?

Given your description of the symptoms and what you have done to date. The only thing I can offer is to check for loose wires inside.
The detector works as normal until bumped. This indicates that something inside is loose and bumping either breaks a connection or shorts a connection against the case.
How big a bump does it take? Can it be from any direction?
If you set the detector, with no rod or coil connected, on a table and turn it on, will it stay on for 15 minutes? If you tap on any of the sides, does it reset? Does if reset if you move it around without jarring it in any way?

It sounds like it is not a user quick fix problem and one for White's service. Turn around time is very fast at White's and the shipping often takes longer than the fix.

Sounds like possibly a internal issue you may need too send it in to whites
