A semi-good day with the X-Terra 70........................

I spent a short time hunting an old camp site on the Milton Ranch today and found a nice saloon token and an 1905 Indian Head penny. I just finished cleaning the token a few minutes ago using soapy water and a soft tooth brush. I have not cleaned the Indian Head penny yet, but may have to use electrolysis on it.

The token was approximately 4" deep and registered a solid 30 on the meter. The ground was extremely dry and hard. It did not sound off in the high tone, but sounded off in the second highest of the four tone mode that I was using. The token is about the size of a quarter, but thinner.

The 1905 Indian Head penny was approximately 5" deep and bounced between 30 and 34 before settling on a reading of 30. Like the token, it did not sound off on the high tone, but sounded off on the second highest of the four tone mode.

This was an old site and there were no pull tabs found at the site. I did get a fair amount of low iron tones, but did not dig them at this time because this was just an exploritory hunt for me. I plan on going back to the site when cooler weather arrives down here in South Texas. This site is within 100 feet of an old dried up spring.

I used the original coil that came with the X-Terra 70.

Please have a great day! Kelley (Texas) :)

Great token, Kelley and an IH is fantastic any day of the week :clapping:

I had a fun day today with my new X70; first shot at relic hunting; it's a blast with this detector :stars: . Pics later after cleaning the stuff up.

at two entirely different type of locations...never had this happen before.

Are you going to post pictures of what you found relic hunting? I still use my Fisher CZ when relic hunting, but have entertained possibly using the X-Terra 70 at a couple of sites that I know about. Please post a few pictures and how you did relic hunting. Kelley (Texas) :)

Yup, just haven't taken the time to, Kelley.
Busy helping my wife with her dad's estate and sale coming up soon.

Thanks for asking.

make a trip like that enjoyable. Tokens and older US coins are my favorite finds, especially since tokens can 'tell a story' about the area and era of the site.

If you find more out about the token, be sure to share.

Any site that's old, kicks out some good stuff, and doesn't have any blasted pull tabs is definitely a site to revisit! :)

All the best to you next time.

Monte

PS: The tone and visual ID sound appropriate, and maybe, just maybe, Minelab will have a smaller coil you can use next time and pick around the iron stuff better.

Kelly nice token, I love those things! Everyone wants to find silver, but tokens like that are AWESOME!!! Thanks for sharing.
