A sad coin

MrGee

New member
This was not a find. I got it many years ago in change and just hung on to it. It's been gathering dust in a box for a long time and I just remembered it the other day. Makes a guy mad to see such a thing

MrGee

Years ago people would drill the hole in these dime to insert a metal cutting jig saw blade. They would cut away the metal around the head and hang the dime on a chain as a necklace. They actually looked really nice.

I remember having seen those necklaces and you're right. they were pretty nice looking. I had the same thought that someone was going to try that and decided it was too much work.

Yes I agree ,,that is what someone was trying to do.

I think you should finish the job. Cut the winged Mercury head out drill a very small hole in the top and hang it on a necklace.

I thought about finishing the project with this coin but I'm afraid that my hands and eyes and patience would not allow it. And I have no idea wha kind of tool I'd have to use for a fine cut like that. MrGee

I agree,,,I have never done it but guess could hack it out to get it close with saw/grinder,whatever, and then use a small file to get fine details. Still allot of work.
My style would be a bench grinder,,,lol. Silver dust everywhere!!:look:
