A retro question for Fisher ??????????????

Dave J or anyone else...............why can't you guys a build new "super version" of the 1266X ??? Same extremely comfortable and sucessfull case and rod setup....but with 2012 electronics?? I bet there would be droves of Fisher guys fighting to get this type of unit. I asked 6 of my detecting friends what they thought of the idea and they all agreed a 1266X setup would be a fantastic offering. Why did it go away?? Classic designs will sell in today's market, just look at the Mustang!!!. Anyone else with me on this one?? Or are most people happy with the mediocre offerings out on the market today. Ask yourslef would you buy one?? Thanx.

I don't usually answer "why?" questions or say what what we will or won't do. However you can be pretty sure we won't be resurrecting the 1266.

The bottom line is that we'd never sell enough of 'em to make it worth the trouble. It has a fan club, but then again so does the Coinstrike, and in the end we had to darn near give those away in order to get rid of 'em.

They did resurrect the 1266x with the 1270 and put newer features on it that I find very beneficial, silencer mode, better iron discrimination and you can run it in all metal! And I forgot to mention it's very deep!! But this detector didn't have the following like the 1266x! So now they are no longer making them. If you haven't tried one you need to!! It's a awesome detector!!

The 1270 was an ergonomic disaster. I weighed in a 4 lbs and was in no way as light and well balanced as the 1265/1266 style of detector body.. I'm not expecting to have Fisher bring back the 1266X.............that was not my point....... I think my point was missed. I'm talking about the 1266X "body style" . Sleek, practical and extremely well balanced. Put what ever current electronics you can develop into that type of casing and watch your sales grow!!!! Much of the 1266X success was due to it's physical packaging.

It's already been done, and as you say we watched our sales grow-- many times those of the 1266.

The 1260 mechanical platform introduced in 1982 was gotten good by "seat of the pants" engineering. (Kudos to Dick Williams, Jim Lewellen, Marvin Jones, and Carol Chandler.) The T2 introduced in 2006 was inspired by the 1260 mechanical platform, but this time around we approached it from a scientific ergonomics perspective. It's the only mechanical platform in the entire industry for which the manufacturer publishes ergonomic spex. (The F75 uses the same mechanical platform.)

I think this is all backwards. Take the 1266 with the exact same electronic platform and an updated instruction manual, don't do anything that would in any way change it's original performance, and put in a new light weight scientific ergonomics package that makes a fellow look like he knows what he's doing and market the hell out of it. Beep and dig is still to this day the root of successful detecting, but if a digital screen is necessary to accomplish that, install one with a clock and an odometer. The 1266 is, in itself a success story. It would be awesome to pick up a unit that felt like I was swinging a G2 or Gold Bug but was a 1266. You guys at Fisher certainly knew what you were doing, and still do. With the legendary success and reputation of this detector, known by young and old alike, if you put it in a modern, lightweight container, paint one camo and call it the 1266 LTD, paint another hunter orange and call it the Tek 1266 SE I bet you could retire in short order and spend your time drinking beer and detecting any time you felt like it.

FTP-Fisher is a business. Part of my job is not to give marketing dept. products that dealers don't want.

Meanwhile, anyone who wants a real genuine made-in-Los Banos (!) 1266-X either already has one, or can buy one on fleabay for probably less than $300. Problem solved!

The 1270 is one of the best detectors I use , its depth is unbelievable. the trick is to make it a hip mout or chest mount, I did both for land and water and I swing it all day long ,even with the 10.5 coil. Very easy to do mines a chest mount now, i'll have to wieght the handle and coil. if you need pic's i'll send then. Put the wand with the 8" coil and it weighs in at about less then 2 lbs. its lighter then my F75......
