A real bust....

Today, a house built in 1860 turned out to be a bust. I knew when I began that there was a good chance someone else or multiple people over the years might have detected there already. I was right. A friend who bought the house had remolded it inside and out; he gave me permission to MD around it.
I started out around the house with the 9.5 coil but quickly switched to the 12 inch coil for better coverage and deeper signals if any existed; there were none. I dug sever pieces of junk, a few pennies, one musket ball and a couple spent shells. I even pulled a small car out of the ground. I listened for faint signals and could hear nothing. When I dug up the musket ball I figured this was a good sign but it didn

Don't you just hate it when there are signs of previous diggers? Crank up the gain and slap on a big coil and find those old coins where those dig marks are ! Rise to the challenge! :sadwalk:

I hate when that happens. It's happened more than once with us, but we just figured they didn't have any money since they had such a huge house. Better luck next time but I bet you still had fun tryng. HH, Nancy

Nancy,, I figured that my 12 inch would have picked up any deeper signals but it didn't. I don't know that I want to waste anymore time there
unless its to explore that bottle dump. We'll see.

Katz you had a good hunt anyway and it wasn't a total bust cause you got the musket ball . I don't know about where you are but you don't find those very often here in Missouri , I have only found one 75 mm so far and haven't heard of anyone else finding any around here yet .As far as the spot being hunted we all find spots like that ever once in awhile . Just tighten up your belt and move on to the next spot it will be better and think of all the exercise you got in the nice outdoors and fresh air .

Nice try anyway Katz. Did you happen to try a smaller coil to probe as close as possible up to structures and obstacles also ? I have sniffed out a couple of very good finds at spots like that. NOTHING at all except for one or two good targets up tight near obstacles where previous hunters wouldn't or couldn't go. Just curious. Good work and good luck.

I've been "skunked" the last 4 older homes (1930's) I've detected. Two of them yielded a pair of wheats, and nothing else. The other two (1) clad dime and few Memorial cents. No signs of any previous diggers. WE all know you need kids tumbling around the yard, or family gatherings over the years to "seed" the turf. You just got to keep trying....

Don't get down. Even a not so good hunt is a way better than having to work, instead of hunting.

...Under the house

If its on a crawl space that would probably be virgin territory. Got to remember, before a/c that was the coolest spot. Guess where kids like to play...under porches and under the house. It may take some work but could definately pay off big. Good Luck!
