A Quick Review SEF 8X6 Butterfly Coil On MXT:thumbup:

Picked up one of the SEF 8X6 Butterfly coils from Kellyco for the MXT and I give it a:thumbup: Pretty dog gone good little coil, pin points right on the money, it gets good depth and works through trash very nicely. The VDI" are good and the detector weight is good and balanced with the coil, very easy to sweep. It covers a little more ground than the 5.3 Eclipse coil and I think it gets a little more depth than the White's 5.3 Eclipse, but time will really tell. I really like the way it looks, pretty cool on the detector and the quality and appearance of the coil is really top notch. ( A Little Note About This Coil Is) I had to use my extra Garrett AT Pro coil bolt on it due to the ears on the coil being thicker than the White's coil. The Garrett coil bolt is the exact same size as the White's coil bolt but longer and it worked perfect with the SEF coil on the MXT. With the White's coil bolt you only get about 2 to 2 1/2 threads on the nut, not enough in my opinion.

[size=large]i found the same bolt problem after mine arrived. when i bought my 8x6 for my ml kellyco threw in an extra bolt for the reason you noted. didn't do the same for my whites mxt version.

That's tthe one coil I'm considering adding but I've hesitated and stuck with the 5.3 instead. A little extra depth is always good but I really prefer the solid, closed loops like the 5.3 and 950 as I hunt in snaggy areas often. Are you finding the open, web design of the s.e.f. to be a problem with getting caught on roots, etc . . .?

Just hunted an area yesterday with the SEF 8X6 coil that had some hard stubs from the old grass sticking up in different areas and yes the stubs snagged on the coil a little due to the open design more common on these DD type coils.

The area was an old 1900 town sight and had a lot of iron trash and the ground was fairly minralized. This old sight has been hunted to death :rolleyes:and it is some of the most difficult ground I have come across due to the trash & old iron content and the SEF 8X6 coil performed like a champ:thumbup: getting between the trash & iron. I pulled about 12 modern copper penny's, 15 zinc's, 2 toy cars, 6 old miscellaneous relic pieces, 2 wheat's 1930 &1955  and a real nice 1905 V nickel :clapping:out of this old hunted out town sight.

If you can put up with the openings in the coil the SEF on the MXT is a keeper and does a real nice job. It has become my favorite little coil on the MXT:)

Thank's for that Bill . .

Love this coil, light, real good in trash and easy to pinpoint, don't have to squeeze the trigger only to check depth
