I never thought about this until recently
but is there a kit or something one can use to
test the purity of your gold and silver rings at home?

Yes there is an acid kit that you can purchase that will test gold in each of the carat weights and test silver. You have to make sure that you get one with each of the acids in the kit. Readily available on E-Prey and other places.

What does a magnet look like and are they only available in Canada? Oh and what does a magnet do exactly? they sound high tech!!!!
