A question

I imagine you all use pin pointers to locate your finds quickly.
I have a Garrett Propointer. Has anyone used the MineLab Pro Find 25
and is it any better than Garretts? Is it any deeper?
Robt2300

I have them both. The Garrett has greater depth, call it an inch depending on soil conditions. The Minelab has adjustable sensitivity and the ability to mute.

I use my Garrett 95% of the time. I use the Minelab (with the sensitivity dialed down) when I cant find what part of the small hole my target is in with the Garrett.

I carry them both when I hunt except at the beach where I can make bigger holes.

I testify to all the above even as a diehard Minelab believer.

Hi 2300, I don,t think one is alot better than the other, just you can turn the Minelab up and down. If you have one or the other you are in good shape. Flintstone

I owned both...currently have the Minelab. I did not sell the Garrett to get the Minelab rather...sold it when I need quick cash. Decided then might as well try the Minelab when I had the money again...that and someone had a new one for 100.00 shipped.
So..Owning both...would not sell one to get the other IMHO. Garrett is a bit deeper...Minelab you can mute and adjust sens. I run the Minelab at max sens and never mute it so...those options do not have a use for me. So...basically very similar to me one to the other.

I have two Garrett Pro-Pointers and an inline probe on my Explorer also. I have never tried the Pro Find so I really can't offer an opinion. Garrett probably has the best warranty & customer service in the business though ..

Well, I guess I'm good with my pro pointer then. Just thought for the extra money
the MineLab popinter mught get better depth.

FWIW The sensitivity on the Garrett is also adjustable.

In the small manual that comes with the probe, page 15, Garrett refers to it as "detuning" the Pro-Pointer. It works the same way you shrink the the size of the audio response to a target when pinpointing with your regular detector.

Try this, when the Pro Pointer senses/locates the target in the ground hold it steady at that point, then turn it off and then back on. Now the sensitivity to that target will be reduced. To regain full sensitivity again, hold the probe away from any metals, turn it off and then back on.

You got a 15+ page manual with your Garrett? All I got was a cheapo insert.

That, of course, will also work on any pinpointer, as will the nickel trick to increase sensitivity.

I have both, and like the Minelab for hunting more public places or where there are people around. I prefer the Minelab for these conditions because I can mute it and I get less attention when recovering a target. The Garrett blasts out and attracts spectators to my digging and I prefer not to have others watch as I recover a target. You can also adjust the Garrett for better depth by using a ring or coin, there are instruction posts about this somewhere here.

You can increase the depth of the ProPointer but I don't understand why you would want increased depth. When my MD tells me I've got a target, my ProPointer then tells me whether it's within the top 2 inches of soil. If I don't get a signal from the ProPointer I know I have to dig a deep plug. If I do get a signal from the ProPointer, I either dig a shallow plug or just pop the target.
Just saying.

tog, you can always decrease sensitivity by backing off a bit. Increased factory sensitivity is an important feature for many folks, especially newer folks, when they consider a pinpointer purchase. And it never hurts to be a fully informed consumer.
