A question of ethics?

You purchase a detector and pay for the shipping as stated IE: UPS and it gets shipped USPS instead. You payed XXXX amout of dollars for detector and seller only insures it for XX amount of dollars. This happened to me recently and I got HOT about it. I have alwas shipped a detector or item the way I said I would ship it especially if you payed for said service I have alwas insured a item for its full amount or current value.so if lost or damaged no one is out of pocket money. So what are your thoughts on this? what would you do if this happened to you. Would you remain mum about it? Say something about it ? or its not worth the hassle ? or maybe something else? Lets here your thoughts on this.

If you paid for the said service such as UPS that's the way it should have been shipped, that's my 2 cents, Hank.

If everything showed up all right, undamaged and on time, just not the way the deal was structured, I would have a tiny WTH quickly flit through my brain, but then, in the excitement of unwrapping, I would forget the whole thing...all in all, you paid XXXX for the detector, and the dealer only pays XX for it, so it is understandable that he would not pay retail XXXX price for insurance, since he can replace it for XX.dealer cost. No breach of ethics or anything like that, I'd forget the whole thing and save some pistoffishness for a politician or somebody that really deserves it!

You put him on your own personal "don't do business with" list.

I have such a list. I write em down so I don't forget. I'm sure others do as well. Once they get on the list, they don't exist. I will not sell to them nor purchase from them, nor even look at their posts.

I'm the same way, once they cross me, they are on my "do not buy from list" forever. I broke that rule once and got shafted again by the same outfit. Made sure it never happened after that, though I'll always give an outfit the chance to make things right, the vast majority of which do...

On Ebay and other somewhat "reputable" selling sites the seller is responsible to ensure an item arrives safely. So had the detector gotten damaged during shipping the seller would have been responsible for the entire price of the unit, even if he didn't insure it for the entire amount. Last fall I started selling a lot on Ebay and learned this right off the bat. I was adding insurance as an option if the buyer wanted it fine if not fine. I soon realized that you should not do this because if the buyers say they don't want the insurance and it gets damaged the seller still has to pay up. I just calculate the cost of insurance into the shipping price and include it on everything I ship. There have been a few times as a seller I have used a different type of shipping then was requested. Only a couple times though, not very often. It is usually when I end up having to leave town and the requested service is not available and to avoid delay I use an alternate.
One more thing you might want to look at is that Fed Ex now has a service (Smart Post I think) and they ship the item across the country via Fed Ex and then when it gets close to the destination Fed Ex will send it using the USPS. It is cheaper for them to pay to ship it with USPS then it is to deliver it any further. Whenever I buy something from Ebay and the seller has insurance as an extra charge I do not pay for it because the seller will have to pay off if it doesn't arrive safe.

I'm sure UPS does the same thing as FedEx. There is a UPS truck backed up to our post office every day. I asked her what was going on and gave me the same story as the FedEx story. IMHO, as long as it gets to you undamaged, it really doesn't make any difference. I don't sweat the small stuff and just about everything is small stuff.
