A question for Dave J.

I finally read my Tracker IV's manual  and noticed like all the others I've had that the manual says to ONLY use alkaline batteries and of course you know what I've been using. I haven't been able to find some of the posts on this question, so I'll ask the guy who knows-am I hurting my detector? It didn't the other 2 I had years ago. Oh-here's today's finds. My first ring-silver. Another $70 and I'll have it paid for. The medallion is a track medallion with track shoes with wings on them. I'm not so sure about this thing not being deep, as it was only a little weaker on a signal than my Silver umax I tested a find BEFORE I dug it up. Thanks, Dave.

Zinc-carbon cheapies and so-called "heavy duty" ZnC's either won't work, or will have short battery life if they do work. However they won't harm the machine (as long as they don't up & leak on ya).

A few people use rechargeable NiCd or NiMH batteries: these will usually work just fine but won't give nearly as many hours of service as alkaline will.

Also be aware that not all alkalines are created equal. Stick with well known name brands, or off-brands that you know from experience give as many hours of service as the name brands do.

Thanks. I made a rookie mistake and forgot to expand the no. of days on the search browser and so didn't find your excellent report on batteries and apologize for not catching it in time . I know you're busy and appreciate the reply. Thanks, again. Don't know why I like the Tracker so much-it's my cruisin' machine for quickie hunts. The weather's so hot that I only lasted a couple of hours with frequent stops.

Slingshot ,how cool is it that you can ask a simple question and get
a direct answer from someone at the top of First Texas.
We should not take Dave J fore granted .
I have seen no other that interacts as he does.
Many thanks Mike G
