A question for Aussie detectorists.

I'm just wondering how well your X-Terra's go at hearing a five cent piece. I've been trying to get mine to detect one sitting on the ground and seem to have trouble picking it up. I set the sensitivity to max and checked the ground for other targets. I can hear the coin about half the time, usually if I sweep really slow, but at normal sweep speed, it is almost impossible to pick up. I can hear all other coins clearly.
Thanks.
Mick Evans.

Hi Mick,

Just did a bit of a sweep over and with the x70 i can get the 5 cent coin in patterns 1 2 3 and all metal using sensitivity at 30 with a lock on at 8 AT 170mm. With sensitivity at 20 lock on at 8 and 140mm. I use a wooden meat scewer with the coin at the base so you can measure up the scewer.

Hope this helps Regards Pinpointa Down Under In Oz.:clapping:

G'day Mick

I will pull the Terra out on the weekend and see how I go.

I won't be able to supply any of the jargin that Pinpointa supplied.

But I will tell you if it picks up the 5 cents.

Take Care

Ashley...

Thanks Ray and Ashley. Welcome to the forum Ashley. I look forward to the results you come up with.
Ray. I tried an air test, and got an identical result as you on my X 30. However, when I put it on the ground, that's when it struggles. I also noticed that when the 5 cents was sitting vertically in the grass, it seems to be even more difficult for the detector to see. I haven't been able to link up with my friend to swap coils over, so I'm interested to know if it's just my coil, or the X-Terra's don't like small low conductive targets. Hopefully it's the former.

Hey Mick you seem to get into more strife than ned kelly, 5c locks in at 8 no problem. your not a garrett stooge are you LOL

Here is a few more tests with the 5 cent coin. Now if you sweep your coil over the coin on edge you can see it to the right of the coil about 1 inch away you will easy pick it up at 100mm. with normal sweep speed but if you go across right angles to what it is their you will get no signal or very little i did do a minerialisation test which came out at 00 07 31 which is quite interesting.

Hope this helps Regards Pinpointa Down Under In Oz.

I must have been picking up some nearby trash as I was able to get a proper lock on it today. It's odd, as it didn't seem to effect anything else in the same area.

Like Ned Kelly's famous last words, "such is life". I'll get to enjoy the X-Terra again, even if it kills me:lol:. I'm taking it away with me this week end and I'll apply some of the things that I've learned over the past week. Coin shooting has got to be better than shooting coppers though!:starwars: Bought some proper head phones as well this week and I was surprised at the difference that they can make. I'll post the finds when I get back.
Cheers.
Mick Evans.
