A question about..........

Old Katz

New member
I found this old bullet at an old town with my MXT.
It's really small. I've seen .22 bullets before and this is about
that size, but the color? I've seen Civil War bullets this color
but did they ever have bullets this small back then?

They did have them that small, back in the day but I have found .22 bullets that were not used during the war that had a nice patina on 'em. Even jacketed bullets with a lead core and the core will have a sporty patina on it. I think a lot of the patina has to do with the type of ground your find them in...d2

It looks Civil War era to me.

The first rim fire cartridge was the 22 short for S&Ws first pistol in 1853. Not long later the 22 long came out. The 22 long rifle and larger size rounds came out later.
