A Question About Tracking?

RLOH

Well-known member
I have never used the tracking feature of the 70 and I am a bit confused about it. When you hit the button, can you start hunting immediately? When you get a good signal and you want to get it pinpointed, do you turn tracking off? One of the places I hunted today had some real big variations in ground balance numbers. One end of the field ground balanced at 23 and when I checked it at the other end(600 feet), the number read 34. It would seem this is the ideal spot to use tracking? I hesitated using it because I didn't want to chance missing anything. Ground balancing takes only a few seconds, but finding clean ground to balance in sometimes takes much more time. I would like to learn the correct way to use tracking. R.L.

check FAQ FAQ and look for diggers write up on it. It should tell you what you want to know..

Tracking is kind of like having a GB on the fly! It automatically adjusts the detectors GB while hunting, for situations exactly as you described. To turn it on, simply press the Track pad. It will self adjust very quickly for the first few seconds. Then it will slow down a bit and "reset" itself every couple seconds. When you go over a target, it is recommended to switch out of the Tracking mode as it may be possible to "track out" the target. In other words, the detector will set the GB based on what is under the coil. If a target is repeatedly under the coil, it may sense that target as being part of the ground matrix and set your GB incorrectly. To turn off the tracking, simply press the Track pad again. OR, if you use the Pinpoint mode, tracking will be automatically turned off while in the Pinpoint mode. When you go back to your hunt mode from Pinpoint mode, Tracking will be reimplemented.
