A question about Sensitivity was asked recently...

and I have read where people max their sensitivity as far as they can to get good depth. Where others were pushing 22 and higher in manual, my detector (Exp II) wasn't stable when pushed over 14...less than the factory preset. I could not understand why such a gap. Between 11 and 14 was the highest level for my X-1 probe to work right too. Anything higher and the probe went nuts.

I came across this video and the more I listen to it the more sense I get from it.

Not all places where others hunt is the same as the places I am hunting...so there will be a difference in sensitivity settings. What is great is not trying to force the machine to do what others are doing and then getting sporadic operation at best but instead letting the detector do the determination as is explained in the video.

Here is the link (or video - whichever shows up) from MLOTV (Minelab Owners TV):

Thinking of adding a pick axe to my tools...still lots of snow up here at Hougton Lake and people driving their vehicles on the lake yet.

I didn't read anything in the manual on setting the sensitivity the way he demonstrates....wonder how they came to that conclusion that it could be done like that?

Anyway, thought it would be something to try when the signal gets irratic and I have already removed all the stuff from the coil cover.

Pete we had a major melt here its 55 degrees now,but that's only good for a couple of days.I use to Ski Patrol but LOL got sick of the snow.Went cross country skiing last week but the snow was melting and that came to a halt. The snow melted enough in the pasture to drag a harrow with the tractor over the manure my wife's idea.Anyway she clip ed a post and took the fencing out for the whole pasture that's the wide band nylon low maintenance,I 'll take a board fence any day.I'm ready for spring.

Hey Pete,
Sens settings vary a bit so you do have to adjust it occasionally to get the best results. Ive got an Explorer and Etrac and the Etrac tells you what sens its running at when in auto and on the same site Ive seen it vary from 20 to 27. I know on beaches depending on the amount of moisture(wet sand) the sens setting should be adjusted also. That is one setting I set for myself and dont use what others use. The video you posted is interesting and I have to say I usually run my sens a tad low so the detector runs nice and stable instead of squirrely and noisy. for me its much easier to hear the deeper targets this way and I feel its just doing a better job.

Thanks,
Neil
