A question about notching.

Let me know if I got this right. Gain increases below 6 and above 20 discrimination. If I notch out a segment or two above or below 6 and 20, does it increase the gain too? Seems like my machine gets more chattery when I use notching.

I think maybe it does, see my post about chatter.

I had to reset again because of chatter and this time there were no notches involved. The reset once again stopped the chatter. I am going to write to FT about it.

I talked to Andy Meyer who has fisherf75.com and yes, the notch does affect the chatter just as if setting the disc below 5 or above 19.

However, I have had to reset mine twice to get the chatter to stop. I changed the stock batteries to 4 Oxyride AAs and have not had to reset since the change. I'll let you know if I have anymore problems.

What I really need now is a good new place to hunt that is not a 30-45 minute drive away...

The only time I notch is to cherry pick out clad in trash. It is nice to hear everything and pick out the strong hits or listen for a deep whisper and dig a bit and then go over the target again. Sometimes when you notch out a range you miss a coin that is right next to it.

I don't use the notch. I just don't like the way the audio sounds with the notch, everything seem's smoother when the disc is low and there are no notches, at least to me.
