A question about 6x10DD 0r the 4x6DD

Since I lost my 6x10 coil (suspect it was stolen) I am about to replace it, however
the post by boxofchocolates got me to thinmking about depth as well.

Today I and my hunting partner went out to MD his brother's house on two or three acres of beautiful
land next to an idelic flowing river. We only spent an hour and gave up; the junk was firece, the worst I've
seen in a while. No longer having my 6x10DD I put on the 5.3 coil. My hunting partner gave up and put on the 4.5 coil on
his Ace 250. Even though the smaller coils gave us better seperation, the hour of MDing gave us nothing but junk.

Since I have to get another DD coil I wonder if I would be better off with the 4x6 instead of the 6x10DD?
The 6x10DD that cost me $125 is now $148.

I can't make up my mind if I should just use the 5.3 instead of buying the 4x6DD. Any suggestions?

The 5.3 did really well with the Hot Rocks. I just had to lower sensitivity to 7 and I was alright for the rest of the hunt.

So what are your thoughts?

I would replace the 6X10DD for general purpose hunting. You have the 5.3 that does a fairly good job of separating targets. At that extremely trashy site, consider removing some of the larger pieces that may be masking good targets.

By the way, great cat picture.

I have both coils and like them a lot. However, the 6X10 serves me quite well 80% of the time. That said the 4X6 is superb in the trash. Being as you have the 5.3, which is also good in trash, I'd probably replace the 6X10 and possibly add the 4X6 in the future when my budget allows. The 4X6 in my opinion is a great little coil, but designed for very specific use. Great with the sensitivity turned down a bit to get close to the playground equipment in tot lots and parks by the way. The ground coverage and depth won't compare to the 6X10 and it can become very frustrating if you are trying to cover large areas. My two bits.

Thank you for that feedback.
I contacted the MD shop I boought my first 6x10 from and like
everyone else, he's raised his prices. Went from $125 to $148.00.
Looks like I'll have to wait awhile.
