A Quarter day today, but still beats working.

Went to the River today for a 3 hr. hunt. Started slow and ended the same. Quarters were the coin of the day. ( better than pennys) I had a blasting sound, sounded like a quarter, so I started digging took three scoops each time the signal was still there. Forth scoop no signal so I shook out the scoop, I had 3 quarters in the scoop. Checked the pile I set aside from the first three scoops the same blasting sound, scooped up the pile shook it out and had 4 quarters in the scoop. Checked about a 3 ft. area and found 2 more. I ended up with 19 quarters for the day.

SOUTH END OF SWIM AREA, EMPTY, STORM ON THE WAY.

I agree with David. A beauty of a place to hunt and Im sure Id have a fishing pole along, too. Thanks Joe for the great tour.

I have a swimming area on a bay near me. The swimming area is roped off in the same fashion. Wave action is usually minimal, and there is not a significant area of wet sand. Do you find a higher density of targets in any particular area? Closer to shore, or closer to the edge ropes? The swimming area at this beach is of significant size and targets are few and far between. Anyone w/ a similar area have a suggestion on the best places to concentrate. The depth is about 3-3.5' at the ropes at low tide. I have worked the near shore areas and the central area, with minimal results, mainly a few clad coins.

...nearby and I have found these things to be true:

1. Most goodies have been found in ankle to thigh deep water.
2. Most goodies have been found within the roped off area.
3. Most goodies have been found in the central zone of the swim area.

There have been exceptions, of course, but this is the pattern I have found at my local freshwater beach. Keep in mind that there is no tidal action, so items in a fresh water swim area stay where they fall. It's best to learn how that happens.

Something you should do now and then is turn your detector off, grab a cold beverage of your choice and spend some time on the beach observing your "target audience," as it were. I try to do this sometime during every hunt.

I especially like to watch the "hotties" (for obvious reasons) and their suitors scrambling and scuffling about, since the influence of hormones plays a big part in many losses. When you hear a young girl shrieking at the beach, pay attention!

The other group to pay particular attention to is young males. They they wrestle and sport around, throwing balls and frisbees and engaging in all sorts of strenuous activity - showing off for the aforementioned hotties, of course. In so doing, they lose keeper items.

After careful observation of people in action, I think much has to do with the fact that you can't really frolic well in really deep water, so most losses occur in mid-torso depth, and shallower, water.

The really shallow rings remain an emigma to me. They are invariably ladies rings, which lends credence to the theory that moms with little kids lose them while splashing in the ankle deep water with their tots.

While it remains true that any ONE thing can be anywhere, these are my observations for MY freshwater beach. YMMV.
