We as a family were doing our laps around the pasture yesterday and came upon this cicada that had just emerged from his shell. He was sitting beside it drying his wings out... must have been a tight fit. I don't know how far these things extend around the country, but they're great at scaring little kids to death. They are big, lumbering, slow flying bugs with red eyes. They have the aerial agility and finesse about equal to a loaded dump truck on a narrow muddy road. Not being able to get out of little kids way, they crash into them with a loud thump, sending the little tike's screaming to their mother, jabbering something about flying demons. In the meantime the cicada is on the ground trying to pull himself together while stars circle about his head. He must somehow launch himself back into the air and continue doing whatever cicadas do.
Bubba, below are some cooked cicadas... I hear they taste like chicken. No, it not mine.
