A plug for Pluggers

VBDave

New member
Yesterday I emailed Bill Quinn of Pluggers to order a straight shaft for the new in the box XS2A Pro I just bought. He called me today to confirm. What a great guy! It's obvious that he really loves the hobby and was eager to share his ideas and experience with a relative newby such as myself. We ended up BSing about Sovereigns and detecting in general for the better part of a half hour. Bill, I hope to get to meet you in person one of these days! Again, thanks for the conversation and the tips.

VBDave,

Let me know how the straight shaft works. I've already had a strong recommendation from others that Pluggers straight rod is the way to go and am leaning that way as I start to put my rig together. I'd like to see a pic of your set up.

I already have my setup in mind, but do need to keep somewhat of a budget. I would love to have a Sun Ray DTI III, but they seem pretty hard to come by, so I am rescaling the meter that came with the Sovereign. I am not a big fan of hipmounts because of coil cables, but I haven't decided against it yet. I have become completely dependent on my Sun Ray pinpointer and am going to make that my next purchase. The S rod that the 2A Pro comes with is interesting. The meter and housing aren't really attached to the S rod with the wedge system Minelab come up with. They are prone to finding their way off.

Anyway, gotta go.

First- file off any little imperfections that are on the wide end where the little cuts are. These imperfections sometimes prevent the device from dropping into the little cuts and locking in place. trust me, once you set the meter or control box properly, it will never slip out without alot of effort on your part! If you pull up on the meter or control box a bit while sliding it to the end of the V-Clip, you will feel it pop into the little cuts and it will stay put, believe me! When you get ready to take it off, pull up on the meter or box a little bit and then try to slide it off. This is the way to properly set the item in the V-Clip. The first thing I do now when I install a V-clip is to file off those little imperfections. I hope this helps everyone who is trying to get started with the best detector that I have ever used (so far). Bill (aka Plugger)

Thanks for the tip. I will give that a shot tomorrow. I don't think it will get you out of sending me one of your search rods when I am ready though. :goodnight:

I'll send a pic once it's all together. My XS2A Pro is new in the box, with the 10" Tornado coil and a plug installed in the control box to allow mounting a remote All Metal/Disc switch on the shaft/handle. My mentor hunts the beach in all metal, switching to disc oner a target, and he's quite productive. Besides the shaft, I ordered a Minelab 180 meter, an S-5 coil for the trashy land spots, and the S1 Probe. For the beach, I'll obviously be nixing the meter and probe. My main transport is a motorcycle, so I ordered Pluggers 3 piece shaft which will stow in a saddlebag or backpack. My scoop breaks down also.

This whole Sovereign project was precipitated by my Tesoro Sandshark all of a sudden losing major depth and my simultaneous "growing out of" my land machine, a Tesoro Vaquero. I'm sending the Sandshark to Tesoro, hopeful they can bring back the depth, but I won't be too disappointed if they can't. I bought it to work deep in the surf here in Virginia Beach, but for the past year conditions have been horrible. Way too much soft, deep sand due to replenishment. I plan on sticking to the wet/dry sand with the Sovereign. I also sold the Vaquero, so I'm counting on the Sovereign to do it all!

I would leave the probe on, i have lost count in the number of deep targets that got lost once i started to dig and i only managed to find them because of the probe, also it speeds up recovery once the target is out, especially in low light.
I also have a pluggers shaft on the excalibur, highly delighted wit hit, and a great guy too boot
