A plate & a 'pin'?

I found 2 interesting relics yesterday. The lead-lined plate is from "SMITH THE HARNESSMAN". This is a cool relic from my home state & if anyone has any guesses what kinda harness this was for please let me know. Also, the heart-shaped item had a pin on the back that crumbled as I picked it up. The pins came down & tucked into the ends sticking out at bottom. Was it some kind of award ribbon maybe?? It has some wierd symbols that I have no idea what they mean. There's no writing, just a handshake, eye, chain, scissors & an animal at bottom. Not all that old (late -1800's maybe), but any ideas fire away
Thanks in advance, Bill

The pins have broke off & were tucked behind the curved parts at bottom.......

ONe item is probably a plate from a horse drawn wagon's harness which would make sense as it was found near a very old barn. HH, Bill

...Is it possible to get a closer look at that heart pin? Are you going to clean it up a bit?
Interesting back attachment...
A amulet or charm sold by gypsies/fortune tellers?
The only thing I could come up with that linked all those symbols was a list of tea leaf reading meanings:
Handshake: friendship, agreement, trust
Chain: Bondage, restriction; an early marriage;
Scissors: Ability to shape or destroy. Consider actions carefully.
Eye: Introspection, inspection, evaluation; caution
Fox: treachery by a trusted friend...

It's probably either an Oddfellows or Masonic sash emblem. Need to see more detail! Dale

I bet that's what it is. I did try to clean it, & now it actually looks worse so I stopped. Maybe I can try another close up shot of just that piece. Thanks for the responses.....Bill

hi bill,
the three chain links on the pin i belive is one of the signs of a group called the "odd fellows"
you might do a look up on the internet i think you will find it, the group is still active.
