A plain & simple question???????

I know this question kind of has to do with the post below from Rebel012 "Garrett adapter problem", but

WHAT KIND OF HEADPHONES DO USE USE WITH THE "A T" ADAPTER???????????. for the PRO or GOLD???????

I have tried several different pairs even borrow different ones from a friend and the adapter still will not work, Garrett keep saying my after market headphones need some kind of 10K resistor put on the across the 2 wires in the headphone jack. Just asking to settle my curiosity!!!!!!!!!!

I use original Gray Ghost headphones, and RAT MSA headphones. I made my own adapter by cutting the cord on the stock headphones. I have never had a problem with the headphones not working. RAT MSA are the best sounding detecting headphones I ever put on by the way. A shame they were discontinued.

Joe, I use Grey Ghost originals and the old style Ratphones. Both work with the factory adapter. The factory adapter has some kind of switch to activate the speaker when the phones are not plugged in, just like most detectors with a speaker. I have had a problem with the speaker coming on with the phones plugged in. I just rotate the end plug in the female adapter and it quits. This only happens when I set the detector down and stretch the cord. If you make your own adapter the speaker will not work when plugged into the detector. The factory adapter solves this problem. I would think you have a bad adapter. Good luck R.L.

I think R.L is right, you have a bad adapter. Call Garrett, ask for Sue as John always says, and let her know you have tried multiple sets of phones and the adapter doesn't work with any of them.

Agree with goodmore about the Rats, no other phones I've tried sound nearly as good with my AT.

I corresponded with Rick Viola who made the Ratphones shortly after he went out of business when I had an issue with my MSAs. He said the profit just wasn't there to justify staying in business. He came back shortly thereafter with a limited run of black ones that I think he called Classics or something like that. Not sure if that's something he'll do periodically or if he was just getting rid of leftover inventory.

I cut the stock headphone cord and put a 1/8 inch adapter and use ear-buds. their cheap and LOUD, when they get worn out get a new pair for $10. I've had no issues at all with this setup and the internal speaker works when the buds are unplugged.

Joe, do the Garrett Headphones that came with your A T Pro work O K on your machine?

You would only need some kind of Resistor if you wanted to use a WIRELESS HEADPHONE set up

I have four sets of different brand Headphones, all of them work great with the A T Pro Headphone Adapter.

Yes, The Garrett phones work fine. I even have a prototype adapter I received and that works fine, but it's only about 4 inches long. Not like the Garrett adapter that runs up to the back of the detector. Garrett keeps saying about the resistor thing!!, and I'm OK with that,BUT I personally don't think that's the problem. With other folks saying they can use their after market headphones(KILLER B'S) and I can't. It don't make sense I'm starting to get frustrated with this issue. Love the detectors(PRO & GOLD), but the headphone issue SUCKS!!! Sorry, I'm just venting some before I make another call to Garrett. LOL

Forget the call, box it up and send it to Garrett. I had a bad one and I didn't hesitate sending it right back. Garrett will make it right, always have, always will.
