A picture of a hunt and some questions about the Bounty Hunter 2

Hey everyone,

I posted a bunch of links to pictures on flickr that I posted yesterday in the "Whatzit" forum under the thread "Nice hunt by a old late 1700's log cabin" I also have a video of the hunt as well. However, just for reference here's an overview. http://www.flickr.com/photos/59884159@N06/6254199835/

If you want to look at the items closer go to the thread I mentioned.

The reason why im posting this is not just to show you what I found but also to test what settings are best for detecting certain things. Im still VERY new to this. I've had my Bounty Hunter 2 for around 4 or 5 years used it a couple times and put it away for several years and just recently (this summer) got it back out and have been addicted ever since ;)

I find that the best setting to find coins under is to crank the Disc all the way to the right (clockwise). For relics such as what I found in the overview above, I find it best to crank the Disc knob to the 12:00 position. Is this what you all are figuring out too? Will the relic position I mentioned also find coins or does it have to be full Disc to do that? If the relic position does both then i'll just use that from now on when im going around old houses and such.

You know, I really was starting to think a couple of weeks ago that a more expensive metal detector would be better but this past weekend I was proved wrong. I just had to try a different approach. It's all about getting to know your machine.

I put a small nail on the ground and turn the disc until it just discs out the nail and then make a mark with a felt pen so i know where the spot is. Then i do it again with a nickle. I usually set the disc at the first mark but always keep it between the 2 marks. Any more disc and you will miss ALL the gold jewelry. You will dig some more junk this way, but i just found my first Gold ring the other day so digging some pull tabs and bottle caps was worth it.

Sweet finds! Is that a button with an eagle on it?

It's a button from the 1700's. I dont know what it has on the front of it because it was eroded pretty badly. It does look like it though. That was my first impression but half of the buttons surface detail are missing.

Cool, good idea! Yea, nails are a big thing by that 1700's property. I wont have to worry too much about pull tabs but there were bottle caps back then. I'll have to test it out! Thanks for the details!
