A perfect example how not to metal detect with a Sovereign.

Everyone has there own way to hunt with there machines and i make it a practise not to criticize anyone but looking at this video i noticed just how fast this guy swings the coil i bet he missed at least a dozen good targets swinging that fast , yea he found targets but slow it down !!!! and he would of properly had a few more good finds . oh iam no expert by the way lol . Jim :detecting:

His swing speed is 2 to 3 times faster than mine. Some of those targets that had a crackling sound to them, I noticed he left in the ground. With my excal I dig them, while most are just trash I have found coins and a couple of rings in the same scoop with rusted pieces of metal, he just needs to dig some of those so he can understand what his machine is telling him, no doubt he missed some good targets. HH

Just for the record, when I say I *might* (still checking it out) get more depth when swinging "fast" on my GT, it probably ain't even 1/3rd that speed. Fast is a relative term. You know, that would make a good youtube video. Several clips of sweep speeds at varying rates and then people could say "that's the one I use right there" so we could bounce some speed terms off each other about what "slow, medium, and fast" means on a Sovereign. I'm surprised that guy didn't like his coil on fire with all the friction from swinging it that fast.

Exactly what all said above , way to fast my buddy's call me snail trail , and that's all you did so far ?? especially on large fields .. but if i hear just a bleep ill go back and slowly run the coil over that spot and sometimes i do find a good deep target , i learned not to pass up those unless it is that iron sound blahhhh then ill switch over to disc just to check . That guy will learn in time . Oh and please tell that guy in sand use a SCOOP !!! lol, if you noticed the coins he was finding was from across the big pond . Jim

holy smokes! Many of those signals I could hear wanted to "ramp up" but he flew right over them like no ones business.

Your funny critter lol I think I did see a couple of sparks coming off the bottom of his coil.

Not enough videos on the Sovereign series. I should have mine in a few days, maybe I can put a few out there. Should have never sold my first one.

 On posting more youtube Sovereign videos. I plan to do my part now that I know how to use youtube and upload/edit videos. My first two are just some air testing on masked stuff, but I plan to do some field hunts and video that too.

Question, how does one mount the camera to the detector shaft? I want to mount my pocket camcorder below the meter on the shaft so it's got a clear view of the coil. I did have a tiny tripod for the thing but can't find it. I use to mount this camera on my crossbow for deer hunting but I took it off and lost it somewhere in the house.

Anybody know what the standard size seems to be for the bolt mounting hole on a camera? And anybody got any ideas for say some type of hanger from home improvement stores that will clamp on the shaft and have a bolt to mount the camera on? I guess I could use a copper pipe hanger like Ron uses to mount his meters, and that I also used to mount my Digisearch meter on top of my grip. I could just cut the length of the bracket strap down real short and then run a bolt right up through that to mount the camera on. Other ideas welcome though.

I'd also like to figure out a way to plug the audio of my camcorder directly into the speaker jack on my GT, because all the Sovereign videos I've ever seen are using the external audio speak of the Sovereign and that puts it's great smooth rich detailed audio to shame. Not to mention we are all cranking up the threshold so people can hear that in the videos and it makes it sound awful compared to a nice smooth one just low enough to hear through headphones. If I can swing plugged the audio into the speaker jack I could use a splitter and still wear my headphones so I can hear what the machine is doing. Not sure if my camcorder has a input jack for a speaker so I might not be able to do this with this pocket camcorder.

I feel that many may have been turned off to buying a Sovereign if they see these videos and hear the terrible audio coming out of that external speaker. It's just nothing like the real thing through headphones, and had I heard those videos before I bought my GT I might not have ever bought one.

Hey critterhunter - You can pick up a camera clamp at any camera dealer, Best Buy may even sell them. Also, to properly go directly from the detector to a camera, you would need a "line out" on the detector and a "line in" on the camera. The detector only has an earphone out and I think it would over drive the input of your camera.

There are adaptor plugs that will "tame down" the output power of a headphone jack so that it's in the proper specs for the input line not meant for that on cameras and such. What I'm wondering is if my pocket camcorder has an input jack, as I don't think it does off hand but have to look. Then again, another possible solution would be to tape a tiny headphone bud to the microphone screen on the camcorder. With it taped right up against it the mic should be able to pick up the sound fine, and the audio should be at least much better than what is coming out of the external built in speaker of the Sovereign. That speaker is terrible. Like hearing a baseball game announcer through those old megaphones.

Jim,after a few more hours with the Sovereign in the field this hunter will improve. He is headed in the right direction and LOL some will actually learn in the field.Another possibility the hunter may only be searching for sallow targets.Anyway he is a lot better than I am with a camera. Thanks Ron

BC NJ,my first thought a nice aluminum water scoop, would be light years ahead of his digging tool. That would be first on my list that could be improved . HH Ron

Ron, One would have to think that to be hunting that fast, the intent is to cover more ground.Lots of hunters fel the same way, just not that fast. So going with the premise that faster equals more targets.(?) Then why in the world would you have a garden trowel duct taped to a long pole for recovery?
This aligns with hunters with bottled water and magnify glass checking each target for rareness! Target recovery is the single most important part of this sport/hobby. How is it we can spend 1000 dollars on a detectors but cringe at spending 30 bucks on a recovery tool that can save hours in recovery? I just will never get it!
