A nice surprise from Mexico, Before & After

Hello all, most of you know I had a good trip the end of September Detecting the Beaches of Mexico. I found several Gold & Silver Rings, and a few Junkers. well, I had an off day this afternoon due to Jury Duty from this morning. I had this one junk Ring I had found in Mexico on my Microwave that had a bit of shinnyness to it on one of the edges (maybe, that's why I had kept it aside?).

I had some spare time, so I put this ring to Electrolysis to see what I could find out.... well, after 3 sessions, I finally got an answer to my curiosity of the Ring. I didn't take a peek at the inner side as I rubbed it down with Baking Soda, and when I was was finished cleaning it, I looked inside, and it was marked Mexico, 925.

So, it pays to recheck your finds sometimes, here is a few Pics of the Ring... Before & After Electrolysis, Thanks for looking, DirtDiga

If it didn't have the regular silver look of wet-beach silver items (ie.: grey-ish black), then be cautious. If the corrosion/color didn't immediately have that typical beach-wet-salt silver look, then what you have, may not really be silver. It is very common that rings made in Mexico get stamped in various gold marks (14k, 18k, etc...) that are really only gold PLATED. Or things stamped silver, that aren't really silver (or are a much lower grade of silver, like only .60, instead of .925, etc...) Why do you think the stuff is so cheap to tourist at the road-side mexican tourist trap stops ?

I hear ya.... yeah, it had the Grey & Black on it. I 've found a few Rings before that looked pretty bad, just not that bad. I found this Ring about a foot down in the Shells. Never know the Quailty anymore from the Mexico Silver. I wouldn't trust it, But, it sure does look good. :)

Love your post by the way, GL & HH, DirtDiga, aka, looknforgold

Wow, You did have a great trip! And A nice surprise to be found later.

I have a spot where it turns silver, and sometimes gold rusty....And not the normal crusty or black silver. And amazing there is very little iron in the area...
