i just left it to dry for a week then gently brushed it with a dry toothbrush ,NEVER EVER wash copper coins or artifacts cos as soon as you do they are messed up ,the couple of hard encrustations that where on the coin i got off with a sharpend wooden toothpick ,the main reason for using laquer is it retains the detail whilst excluding all air (oxygen causes the rot to start) another method with stuff without so much detail is to boil in mycrocrystaline (renaisance) wax until the air bubbles stop rising this means that all the moisture has been excluded and a air proof layer is on the item ;not to be done in the house though as the wax can catch fire easily i nearly lost my garage when one went up ,the beauty of the wax is you can do a batch of finds together
