Good day folks,
You may be seeing alot of me, I have been intrested in detecting for years but my job has interfered,, now I have changed jobs and have the time to go I bought an Exterra- 70 and love it ,, The old detectors i have used found everybit of foil and beer tab that existed,,, with the 70 I can weed that stuff out .... anyway does any one know what this is?? It is heavy and showed up as a 46 on the scale. I scratched it while digging and it is shinny under the surface.. It was about 5 inches deep, I was checking around where an old stable was in the mid 1700 and early 1800,, I believe I was on the road leading past the stable when I found it..
Thanks in advance

Welcome to the X-Terra forum. The item you have pictured may be lead. Not sure what it was used for! But if it is heavy, and soft enough to have scratched like that, I'd guess lead. You might buy a cheap lead test kit (like they use to test for lead based paint) to see what happens. HH Randy

I did a scratch test with it and a hunk of lead,, it is alot harder that lead,, then I tried a silver dollar,, it is about like scratching a silver dollar... So I am thinking it is silver.. I will do a conclusive test later this week end if no one can tell me what it is...
Thanks

Congrats on the cool find. Good luck with the test, Beale.

Possibly bar lead for making bullets. Easy way to carry in bar form. Just cut as much as needed and melt in camp fire and cast bullets/musket balls as needed. Just a thought giving the possible dates of area found.:minelab:
