A new thing I learned and 10x6DD vs Excellerator

First, let me say that I am by no means an expert. I have been using my MXT for about a year now and have had some good success with it. I almost always run at 0 Disc, +1 Gain with the 10x6 DD coil, and the trigger forward in relic mode. I was out hunting a new site that was close to a site that I have dug a lot of fired 3 ringers at(looking for the camp). This new site was close to some rail tracks that had some power lines running next to them. When I started getting close to them, my MXT started going nuts. I have had this problem before. I tried to turn the gain down, but it did not help. The closer I got to the lines, the worse it got. I was getting frustrated and for some reason I pulled the trigger back to the center position. It got quiet. I was able to get right up to the lines with gain at about 9 with minimal noise. I was happy to learn something new, so I thought I would share it with everyone.
Now, I was at another site that has been real good to me last week and had all day to hunt. I went to the normal spots that always produced. I was using my normal setup with the 10x6 DD. The finds where kind of scarce, so after lunch I decided I would break out my 14" Excellerator coil. I had only used it at this site once before. I went and backtracked trying as best as I could to see if the Excellerator would pick up anything the 10x6 missed. I went to an area where I had dug some stuff early that morning. I got a good signal right next to a hole I dug easily. I dug and it was a button back. A few feet away in between two other holes I get another signal, I dug a paper thin slice of camp lead. This pattern continued for the rest of the afternoon. I dug several more button backs and some flattened bullets. Nothing was more than six inches deep, though. My personal conclusion, the Excellerator coil gave me better sensitivity than the 10x6 DD but no greater depth. I did not dig a single target over six inches that day. I saw someone

When I received my Excelerator Coil, one of the first things I did not like was the weight. The second thing I noticed was that the 60 cycle was really tearing it up in spite of how much I lowered the sensitivity. I swept across a nickel at 5 1/2 inches and it barely responded. (Discrimination Mode at nickel accepted preset).
I connected a Hot Shot 12" by Applied Creativity and the 60 cycle was minimal. At a Sensitivity of 4 on the MXT, I could hear the nickel close to 10".
Double Ds in general whether they are after market or factory loops tend to be more prone to power line than the concentric designed loops.
Stacked Loops like the Eliminator cancel out ALL of the power line but as of yet, Applied Creativity as yet to build that particular loop for an MXT or DFX.

So are you saying the hotshot is better than the 6x9 and the excelerator? What are the gnd in your area, iron and junk? What depth do you see?How long have you been useing it.When the hotshot first came out everyone was talking about them, but when i asked no one seemed to be useing them except in england. Can you tell me some result. Thanks

going back over any site will produced some hits?
I doubt that any of us cover 100% of the ground all the time. Your conclusion may have some merit to it but the only way you will ever now is to do the same thing with the same coil the next time. If it produces additional targets then you just missed them the first time.
Just a thought.

Like I said said before, if you are having a problem with the EXcellerator ( I have no record of purchase for you)I will replace it. Or, are you just promoting the hotshot because you sell them.

I had a nice camping site in a campground. Nice firm sand, some grass/weeds and trees and bigger weeds around the edges.
I went all over it with my standard MXT and standard coil. Found some coins and pull tabs and a fair amount of junk that I did not dig.
Went back later with my MiniShooter and found about the same amount as before.
THEN, I went back over it again with the standard 9.5" coil and found more coins and still left some junk for someone else.
All this in one camping site! It must have been a good one because I spent the whole day going over other camp sites and no other site gave up what this one site did on any one of the three searches.

Sounds like you got a super coil man, gain at 4 and hear a nickel over 10 inches ??? Tell ya I'd like to see that. Seems like your pretty happy with your coil but can't figure why your trashing the excellerator?? I mean first they won't hit a coin at nine inches now they won't work around power lines, Come on man don't you think we use these coils after we buy them?? I have yet to find a place that the excellerator did not run 100% smoother than the stock 950 coil. Do you really have an excellerator coil ??? By the way what's the price on this super coil your pushing ??? Any return policy once we try them and the excellerator kicks the crap out of it ???
