A new detecting roadblock *OUCH*

Well now, this is a new one! I met my friend Monte at a local park in Beaverton Oregon to buy a used detector from him. After some good conversation, and a brief on how to set up my "New to me" Tesoro Bandido II uMAX, he left, and I went on my way around the park to check out my new purchase. After a couple of hours of hunting, I heard zip zip zip going by my head. As it turned out, some kids in a car did a drive by on me, and shot me in the back with an automatic bb gun of some sort. They had touched of around 10 to 15 rounds at me, and the one that hit me put a nice bloody hole in my left shoulder. Just glad it wasn't a 9mm. It was totally unprovoked, and they were definatly after me, as I was the only one in that area.

lesson learned: never hunt near a parking lot close enough for someone to single you out!

What did you do? keep hunting, call the cops? or both? What time of the day was it? Glad you are alright and it wasn't a heavier firearm..even though some of those bb guns can kill a fellow...these kids are not afraid of grown-ups at all now a days. What an adventure!

Report that to the police & give them as much of a detailed description of those kids & what they were driving as you possibly can.----That kind of nonsense is just crazy.---The police can't do anything about it if they don't know about it & need all the info/leads they can get.----Those squirts are really going to hurt someone or put somebody's eye out, even if it's just BB guns.

Did the Bandido uMax pick them up ??
They could not have been buried very deep.
Nobody has ever tried to increase my find rate by such means.

I reported it, couldn't get the car licence number, or see enough through these tired eyes to count how many behind the tinted glass, but had a good description on the car. I left right after it happened, as there were a group of about 12 kids anywhere from 16 to 25 or so, about 3 yards away, that thought it was pretty funny when I hollered when I got hit. I didn't want to take my chances being overpowered by numbers

Very sorry to hear that this type of thing goes on, its a sad thing. You could have easily lost an eye or been very seriously hurt. I carry most all the time, even mding. I wwonder how many others do? Were you in a bad area? Did you make a police report?

You did the right thing. Maybe they will fire on someone that was trained to defend themselves against all enemies foreign and domestic. Glad you were not seriously hurt. Check on your last tetanus shot.

That doesn't sound like OUCH to me, more like jail time. It's one thing to damage property but shooting people is another level even if it was a BB or pellet gun, it must have been a pretty powerful one to draw blood and I assume that was through some kind of clothing.

Glad you are okay, but you may want to have it checked out the BB or pellet could still be in there.

This was actually in a nice area (well to do) of town! Kids sometimes these days make me crazy. Ron in WV, Maybe the fact that I was naked had something to do with it.... same reason they won't let me in Safeway anymore....hmmmmm. Actually, I had on a T-shirt and a flannel shirt over the top of that, and they were at least 20 yards away when they shot at me. My luck, if I'd have been packing and shot one of the little punks, I'd be typing this from the pokey.

Those kids mama obviously didn't whoop their a$$ enough when they got out of line. Can't imagine what my dad would have done to me if I'd have tried a stunt that stupid. I'd STILL be looking in the corner for my head!

Not good at all , i would of made a police report {call } . I always carry bear spray with me , ya never know these days . If i ever get jumped my bear spray will take care of it . Where i live carrying mace ya need a F. I .D . card but with bear spray you don't. As far as me both are the same.

Hey BluesCruise,
were is that park at. I'm from PDX as well so I don't have to encounter those kids.
I do most of my hunting in the Washington side but some times I to goo to NE-SE PDX not to the Beaverton, Hillsboro area at all.
Hope you are better now and I will start to carry a slingshot at lease so I can respond to any assault.

I have my CCW permit and carry ALL THE TIME, especially when detecting.
Lucky for those kids that they shot at you instead of me, as I would have shot back.
There are air rifles designed to kill big game and I am not taking chances.
When will kids learn that pointing ANY kind of weapon, even a toy, can get them killed!
