A mixed assortment of finds!

Goldstrike

I was surprised to dig this big of a shell casing from a public park today! It looks like it wasn't fired though and was probably brought on by someone wanting to play with it and to separate the bullet from the cartridge? (I'm no expert when it comes to guns and ammo). I got the little car and it has 'Mattel' stamped on the base and figured it was from a Monopoly game? The little 'Indian' dime sized button was interesting to dig up! Some of the other finds were from a few days ago but I just grouped them all together! I felt sure the medallion was gold until I checked it coming out of the hole......no cigar on that find I'm afraid!
The gold and silver targets still continue to elude me! Perseverance will pay off eventually though!
P.s. L C on the casing= Lake City Armoury.

Those are some interesting finds for sure. The cartridge is pretty big! Must have been a large bullet.

Howdy Goldstrike--

Good finds there! I think that indian button is really neat. I'm trying to figure out what caliber your cartridge brass is? I know that it is not a .50 cal. I measured some .50 cal brass that I dug and they measure four and seven eighths each. Very neat finds! best of luck and...

Happy Hunting!
Blind Squirrel

I've been thinking of adding some teeth to the other side of the Lesche digger for a while now. After seeing yours, it reminds me I need to fire up the plasma cutter and get it done!

this ring, some old

Thanks for the comments! Coast40...........I used a grinder with a small grinding wheel to put the teeth on mine. It helps to have the teeth when your dealing with roots! If you have a plasma cutter, that will make some awesome teeth on yours:thumbup:
Blind Squirrel....................I'm still not sure what caliber that is. The '42' on the case is still a bit of a puzzle!!

I believe 42 is the year of production.

I would scratch that medallion and acid test it. It looks really good to me. Just to be sure.

I just tested it for gold and it did not pass unfortunately! But thanks for suggesting that and it's always good to do an acid test just in case and it only takes minutes to do:thumbup:

P.s. I'm still trying to find a gold ring as big as the ring in my avatar pic. It was a 14.5 gram (14K) and it sized at 14.5! It was big and heavy and I'll never forget how it clanked around in my sand scoop on a beach! I was thrilled to bit's and It truly was a day to remember!!
