Many years ago I was stricken with the metal detecting bug.I knew very little about the hobby but read every thing I could find about it.I bought a subscription to Western and Eastern treasures magazine and would read it from cover to cover when it arrived each month.I was fasinated by the old coins, jewelry ,relics etc that was dug from the ground and featured each month.I drooled over the new detectors that were advertised.....but at the time,we had just moved home from Indiana and with two low paying jobs and two children at home were struggling to make ends meet and there was no money available for a detector.
I had a few very old detectors.....antique jobs that I bought in yard sales for a couple dollars....but they either didn

now this story of life was a great Sunday morning read with my first cup of kickumup juice
and, I agree---sometimes the surprise gifts in life are the best and mean so much

of family and encouragement!
Not a bad detecting story either. I still have my Garretts GTAx750, but didnt know I had to actually take it out of the case to find something

and my wife was very patient also. She did some detecting, not a lot. When someone called for me while i was out, she would say, well he is out with that "green girlfriend" of his again!

I can just picture you stompin' across that floow toward that trunk. You know, there's a special reward in Heaven for women that put up with the likes of us!
Your story is so touching and downright funny!!
It's just what I needed on this Lord's Day. Thanks for taking the time to share it with me and the others.
Someday, I might get me a new detector, but it will be something I can dive with, since the knees are just not what they used to be.
Take care neighbor, and make the best of this day. <><

you shared it with us! I love surprising people, especially a man who has to act a bit of a jackass before he is surprised!! Great read, and the thing about it is all four of you were thrilled. Your wife and children, for they knew how much you would love it, and you the recipient, because you knew it was given out of love of you!
Thanks for giving my Sunday a highlight!

when you saw that new metal detector! I wonder how in the world your family kept sealed lips for so long. They showed lots of love in getting you that metal detector...great family! Thanks for sharing this story, I really enjoyed it. Please have a great day! Kelley (Texas)

Hope you made a copy to share with your grandkids! These are the "Best" kind!
