Just purchased the CTX 3030 less than a month ago, and are really enjoying learning this amazing instrument! Two weeks ago I went out to a remote spot in Marin County, to visit the remains of an old hunting camp that dates back to the 1850s. It was the day after a week long series of rain storms dumped almost 10 inches of rain on the area. I did a fairly quick survey of the grounds, and got a couple of clads. Then I noticed an almost 90 turn in the briskly running creek adjacent to the camp, and just on a hunch, decided to hit the inner bank of the creek turn with the 6" coil. No less than a couple of minutes later, I got a very strong 12:47 - 13:47 at 7", and knelt down to dig into the sandy gravel bank. I was using the Minelab probe to scan the handfuls of gravel I pulled out, and got big bingo in one handful. In my hand was the beautiful Morgan below. I did not need to clean this coin, as this was the exact condition it was in when I pulled it out. I hunted up stream and downstream from I snagged the Morgan, but it started to rain and grow dark, so I had to leave. I have a very strong suspicion that this Morgan was washed down the hillside from the big rains of the previous days. I'm waiting for the current series of storms to end, when I'll be going back up there to do a thorough survey of the the slopes adjacent to the creek, as I'm convinced there is a coin hoard hiding somewhere in that area. Metal detecting sure is fun! ;-)
