I have read your forum for a while before joining when I was looking for my new detector, and trying to decide which one to buy, I ended up with the Mxt.
because of this forum and having the privilege to talk with Jimmy Sierra on the phone about some of Whites products. It has turned out to be the best
detector for my needs, thank you for letting me join the forum, as I continue to learn new things about it, at this forum, I started detecting some time in the
early 80,s started off with a used Garret ground hog Ads I bought at a gun show. It was difficult for me to learn, as I just detected on occasional week ends.
I latter bought a Bounty Hunter Quick Draw, and because of it being so easy to use I feel I learned a lot with it, took it every where and had a lot of fun with it.
In the past by just knowing the area I lived and threw research I made some good finds with it, but what got me looking at Whites, was an area I had researched
and was detecting I went over real good, another guy that also was detecting there same area that I was, found a barber dime about 5 inches deep, that was
along time ago, but that got me looking at Whites, I later bought a used Gold Master p-sat which I like, but after retiring I wanted a good all around detector, and
having a little more money than my earlier days, I was open to a lot of different ones, think I made a good choice. Nancy If you and Rick haven't already done so
I would like to hear both of your stories on detecting, I have detected for a long time but my detecting was very casual up to a few years ago, I think it would
be very interesting to hear some of your stories especially about working with the police dept. I would also be interested in that type of work, thank you both,
If you have already done something like my request, maybe you can show me how to find it in this forum thanks again 1230@$tree PS after 62 years I am
still learning how to write, hope this is all making since lol

Hello, I'm tickled that you have the MXT. In my opinion, you'll never want for another machine. It's a great machine and will pay for itself over and over again.

I will work on a story and get back with you on this. I'll try to make it short.

HH,
Nancy

No need to keep it short Nancy. Make it as long and detail-filled as possible. I'm sure q and I aren't the only ones who'd love to hear it.

Where do I start...........

Back in the mid 1980's I lost a gold earring in my front yard. I was devastated. I couldn't find it. I got to thinking about how I could use my son's Radio Shack small toy detector to try to find it. BINGO! It wasn't more than 15 minutes and I had my earring in my hand. I was hooked. I was also made fun of from my husband. Ex now. See where it got him. :))

Later on, I met Larry. He liked to metal detect and had an older Whites. I mentioned my experience with finding my gold earring and I decided to buy a Radio Shack / Bounty Hunter type detector that was on sale for $99. He thought it would be a good starter machine.

Larry and I would go out detecting and we mostly found clad. That was fine with me. I was having a blast. I had found enough to pay for the cheap machine time and time again. Larry thought I needed a little better machine, so he contacted his brother and he had a Whites Liberty DI. Heavy heavy machine, but it was a dime magnet. I played around with that one for some time. By then, Larry and I had been a couple for some time.

We joined a local metal detecting club in Peoria, IL. This gave us an inside look at others with the same hobby. It was a very small group and was just starting. 10 years later we're still there and are Board members and I've been the vice president for 9 years. Now I'm the secretary. We've got a wonderful membership. During this time, Larry purchased my MXT as an early birthday gift. A year later, we became Mr. and Mrs.

The local sheriff's department needed help locating items from brutal killings. State police had dug platter sized holes and could not find any items with their detectors. They were looking for any identifiable jewelry of the victims. Peoria County Sheriff's Department contacted our club about trying to find items. We went to the location and scanned the area with our detectors. Yes, an item of jewelry was found. Larry had located a gold ring that was missing a stone. We also went out into the country and walked the ditch to find another piece of evidence. It was not to be found. They keep our calling card for emergencies.

The president of our club had been teaching Crime Scene Technology students at Illinois Central College the ins and outs of metal detecting and needed another willing sole. He asked if I would help out and then after a few years Larry joined in. It's great to be able to teach the skill to the students. We use spent bullets, shells and other items that they might have to recover at a crime scene. It's amazing how willing they are to learn.

There would be many days when Larry and I would be gone from morning till dusk detecting. I would pack a picnic lunch and off we went. We would have days where we would find over $50 in clad. What a blast! We were known as the "King and Queen of clad" and we've had newspapers do stories on us . We would save our clad and enjoy "free" mini vacations. We would go away for the weekend, but still have our detectors in the back ready to go if we would happen to see a good spot to detect. We would do this quite often and all was free. One year we had found almost $1400 in clad. That year we put that towards the down payment on our 30' Sea Ray Cruiser. OH YEAH! What a beauty. After that, we were too busy living on the water every weekend to do any detecting.

We've returned rings to owners, a WWII dog tag to the owner's son and many other items rescued and returned. We've had laughs, tears of joy, and many stories from our metal detecting experiences to last a lifetime. It doesn't get any better.

Since then, the years have passed and the age has crept up on us. We aren't doing our cladding much, but rather knocking on doors to see about detecting the private yards looking for that deep old coin or lost relic.

We've been blessed in finding many wonderful old treasures. It's not just the coins that are found, but the great friendships along the way. We are quite blessed.

Let's try to keep swinging those coils and finding the real treasures in life. Friendships!

Thanks,
Nancy Fillman

Great life story Nancy love it . I think most husbands wish they could have a relationship like that with there wives . Not only life long partners but detecting partners too doesn't get any better than that . Some of us missed out on this hobby most of our lives and never got started till we were retired or physically in bad shape where we couldn't do much else ...congrats . Thanks for sharing your story with us .

Thanks Nancy

That was a great and romantic story of you and your husband,. I wish you both many more years of happiness. I too am interested in in working with the
police in this area, we have a detecting club that dose that I am thinking about joining, Never belonged to any club in the past, but thought I would give it a try.
I enjoyed your story and I think others on this forum will also, you might consider with you and your husbands back ground in working with the police and teaching
classes, about writhing a book, on your training and techniques and how you cover an area and include some cases you have worked on. I think that to would
be interesting, thanks again for writing your story maybe others that have been around a while would like to write there story as will. this is a great forum
keep up the good work. 1230@$tree

Scott, I've not even been out detecting this month. Not once! It's been so blasted hot with high humidity levels that it's impossible for me to be outside very long. I've got cabin fever in the start of Summer. :sadwalk: I'm hoping next week the temps will be lower along with the humidity. Then look out.............I'll be swinging my MXT again. Thanks and HH, Nancy

Looking forward to seeing your finds Nancy. I would post mine but my camera and computer aren't talking anymore. Hope you get out REAL soon.
