A merc...and some clues

REVIER

Well-known member
Ok, got a small area in my large park that I think I need to concentrate on more now that I added up the clues.
Yesterday I found a 45 merc in great shape in a hole that had a weird signal and lower numbers because it was masked and down averaged by a 46 also, not worn, nickel in that same hole.
It never got dug over the years because even though they weren't deep the signal averaged out to something more in the can slaw or large old beaver tail area.
After digging this 70 year old coin spill, (with silver!), I was thinking about some other things I found here in the past and I have a theory.

3/4's of this area has a small stand of younger trees only a few decades old with a couple of huge ones in there that had been around a long time.
The ground is mostly dirt and rocks, no grass at all because the trees prevent the sun from getting to the ground in a large part of this area and where I dug this spill.
I recently dug a small railroad spike near here that I believe came from a small trolley line that once ran through this park long ago because it lines up with what looks like one leg of some tracks that probably ran around along the perimeter of part of this park.
A few weeks ago near this merc I dug a 1946 Rosie that also looked in good shape and not very worn, plus a few years ago right near but not under the big trees I dug a silver pocket watch rim from an area next to the trees that does have some grass.
Nobody uses this area now except for some frisbee players going after some wayward discs because there is a goal in the area.
I can't see anyone throwing down a blanket and sitting here because of the rocky ground now, but I can imagine way back in the past things might have been different.
Because of the large amount of older beaver tails around here and some other older trash plus these older coins and that old pocket watch I definitely think this might have been a prime area with plenty of grass for picnicking at one time...maybe even a main stop on that small trolley line.
All the easy to find shallow coins were scooped up long ago, what is left here now if it is good is either totally masked like this spill and that rosey both at about 4" or are still here but deeper than most tend to dig in this area because of the strange jumpy signals that this difficult dirt causes starting at about the 5" level.
Ya know what....I am just the kind of guy to find these hidden gems if they are still here but hiding.
I have my F70 dialed in pretty good now, I got and found this spill with a sniper coil, I sure don't mind digging trash if there is a good reason especially if I think it might be masking something much better, and most importantly I figured out ways to get to, read and understand those deeper signals past 5" into the 6-8" depth area.
This park is within walking distance of my house so guess where I am going to be making a beeline for on my next several hunts?

Also on yesterday's hunt before I found that silver dime I found Riley's dog tag, another Bama sales tax token in pretty good shape and my second 3 Merry Widows tin top in consecutive hunts.
That makes about 4 or 5 of these things I have found at this park so far....I think I will start calling this place sexy park.

Aaaannnd, on top of that I also got a strange signal that bounced a bit from iron to lower foil and kinda odd so I dug it just to see what it was.
So small and thin, half as thin as a dime, that my Propointer even had a bit of trouble picking it up till I got near it.
Turns out it was this really small elephant pendant which surprised me.
I know the F70 is supposed to start cutting out smaller targets as you go into the larger negative thresh numbers but this was on -4 and I have been fooling around with -5 and -6 on some hunts trying to keep it quiet in disc and I am still finding some really tiny bits of metal so I wonder really how low you can go and still find tiny great targets let alone coins.
This thing is still surprising me, still making my hunts jaw dropping fun and surprising and just got me my #10 silver coin FTY and it is way early in the season so I expect records will eventually be broken.
Hopefully more to come from this newly targeted site.

Show us a picture of the area so we can see what your talking about

Great deductive reasoning watson!!
I have been wondering about those lower negative settings, think I will give them a try.

Sure, so you can come down here and snipe my site?
Ha!
I will take pics tomorrow but it is very nondescript.
Still finding way old things that tell me it wasn't always this way, however.

Sounds good to me,have you tried running higher or lower KHz?-------------after1----------

I usually don't change frequencies much unless I am getting a bunch of that pulsing heavy EMI chatter.
Sometimes it really quiets it down, sometimes not.
If not I just turn down the sense.

There are 7 frequencies but they are so close I don't think hunting in dirt the range would matter much but I will experiment on some deeper targets if I remember to do it sometime and see.
Could be...you never know.
