Wow! Its been a long time since i've Posted on this Forum. I had to get a new password!
Its a long story! I've been very busy at work, workin long hours & unable to get out huntin as much as usual. But, I finally, I took a few hours, got out, & boy, I'm glad I did! As I arrived at my first destination, I found it occupied by Park users & had to go to plan B. This made me have to find another area in the Park to hunt & i'm glad it did. Wait! It gets better! When I parked & got out to hunt this area, I was frustrated about not being able to hunt my usual spot. I parked under a huge old Oak tree & imediately started swingin. I got a signal only steps from the truck & dug what appreaed to be aq rusted, bent name plate off of a lawn moer or something. It was un definable at this point. I continued to detect, Pickin up the usual clad, Bottle caps & pull tabs. I finally gave up & went home. I had to work a night shift that night. I picked up my gear & left my finds in a bucket to be cleaned later. Well, it was 2 weeks later when I finally discovered what I had found. I was shocked.
Any suggestions on how to clean or not clean? Please let me know.
OK, OK, heres the pic. Enjoy:

Great story and a super find!.........If it was mine I would leave it as is and have someone look at it who handles a lot of relics,,,

Wow! That's a beauty and sure to be worth some $$. For restoration, try Leonard Short, relicfix@yahoo.com, 540-230-5442. He does wonders. Just keep in mind restoration vs. reconstruction. Some people, including me, feel that a relic can be too "fixed," resulting in something that looks too good to be true and not as authentic. Your plate looks like it almost only needs a good cleaning. Good luck!

Wow...great find.
