A buddy of mine and I have been tinkering with the idea of making digging tools and even beach scoops. Here is the digging tool, the beach scoop is not quite finished.

Fine looking digger bcoop!

Part of metal detecting for me has been the challenge of creating and building the various tools and devices needed to hunt with less effort.

Sand scoops, water scoops, coil braces, pouches, detector shafts, digging tools, sifters, etc., etc. have all been made or modified as needed over the years.

Buying such items isn't possible in some cases, cost too much in most cases and isn't as much fun as creating and building them myself.

There is just no perfect digging tool or scoop for all conditions or styles of detecting. Half the fun is putting your thoughts and ideas together and coming up with a tool to satisfy the need.

I like it B very nice job on the digger. And I agree there is no perfect tool for all conditions. I'm looking forward to seeing the scoop.

I just commented on your HH PI shaft post. You are indeed talented. It seems that when it comes to diggers and scoops I always have the wrong one with me. You can go broke buying a an assortment of tools for this hobby. Being able to make your own is a big plus. Her is my thoughts on scoops:

In the water I like a big scoop at least 6 " that can take abuse from me and the surf. It needs to be light. Aluminum with stainless tip works well. The holes need to be small to retain earring posts, but it needs to have many to help get rid of the sand as I am lifting it. The RTG with stainless tip is close, but I would rather have smaller holes and more of them. Bracing the way RTG scoops are braced is very important. I have never bent an RTG scoop handle. I have bent cheaper knock offs.

In the dry sand I like a smaller scoop with a wire mesh 5" in diameter. The wire mesh really helps with the disposal and sifting of sand. Scoops with holes require too much shaking. It also needs to be light. Aluminum with a stainless tip would be nice. And the wire mesh or grid needs to be able to put up with me putting my weight on it.

If you can make a scoop like one of these I'm a customer.

I like it! Very Nice BCOOP...Goodmore is right, scoop's can be very much like detectors.....hard to have one do it all...Good Luck...love to see a new scoop...just keep it lite..
