Well I went and sold off most of my detector herd and scraped up some money.Looked high and low for months for a like new detector. LOL i'm fussy that way, finally landed a Whites M6 with no signs of use and had warranty on it to boot.I must say I think I got a deal of a life time. I picked it up from a dealer in Ohio, A person had just gotten it,and then upgrade to a V3. Thought I would post pics of it before I got her hair messed up.I got her with 5.3 coil and cover new,a free Whites backpack on top of deal. I picked up a screen and body protector. And to go all out I even picked up a nice Sunray invader DX 1 to finish her off.

Looks really good!
Many years ago I did a mod to an M6 to allow the toggle switch to be locked in the forward position in order to pinpoint with the probe and have a hand free for digging (same as the XLT and DFX). The how-to is posted here, if you're interested:

M6 trigger mod

Congrats on the M6! It's one of only a couple of detectors that I wish I had not sold in the past. Good score on the sunray probe too. I know it makes the overall package heavier but it's the way to go with that machine as mine would "talk to" and chatter with my Garrett Propointer in use.

I like that switch mod a4wdguy I just might have to do that thanks for info.

Is that mod necessary on the DFX with a DX-1? Does the M6 toggle switch not lock forward like the DFX?

It's not necessary on the DFX or XLT. The factory 3 position trigger switch on the M6 is: forward - tones; center - search; squeezed (and held) - pinpoint/all metal. I imagine the logic was that after pinpointing with the detector, you would set it down, dig the plug and then use a separate hand held pinpointer like the Bullseye. However, if you use the SunRay pin pointer, you are forced to hold the trigger in pin point mode with one hand, operate the pin pointer with another hand, and dig with another hand. Replacing it with a locking switch like the DFX has allows the user to free up one of those hands.

Congrats on your new M6 you will get a lot of use out of it . I had the DX-1 on mine for a spell but didn't lik all those cords around while I was digging holes and holding the trigger while pinpointing was a pain. I was use to the Propointer which was much easier for me to use so I sold my DX-1 and got my propointer back out . I love my M6 I sold my first one and missed it so much I bought another one and still use it . Have fun and enjoy your going to enjoy the M6 .

Happy Hunting,
Harold

Hey Woodchuck
The M6 is an excellent detector and whites number system is great. I have the 5.3 and I bought a 12x10 sef for more open areas and better ground coverage. Had it out Saturday and found a standing liberty quarter and a silver war nickel. Good luck and let us know what you find. HH

I am fixing to break down and buy me an M6 too!!! Have you hunted with it yet??? I know those sun ray probes are nice as I had 2 of them in the past. Let us know how the M6 does for you, Tim

looks like quite a fine piece Woodchuck,.

Sadly under-rated and over-looked by too many dealers and consumers alike. I always did well with my M6's and the 5.3 Eclipse coil, but I'm partial to that size coil on ALL of my White's detectors. The DX1 is god, but for me and my bad shoulder and back, the added weight is not desired. Just get out and use it, don't sweep too quickly, and enjoy the excellent performance!
