I do a lot of my hunting for coins in trash laden parks--mineralization runs med. to heavy.---Without being too concerned about depth and more concerned about excellent target seperation & getting around some of the masking problems.---What is the best detector & coil combination/type for these conditions?--------Thanks, Del

last week i detected my ex wifes back yard (my ex back yard) with my quattro, it grabed this signal that fluctuated from 37 to 40 and for a fairly large area it would not let it go. only went to 40 once, that & the size of area made me think it was an aluminum can. i used the pinpoint mode but it seemed to pinpoint too large of an area. i narrowed the area as best as i could and dug a plug and there low & behold is a pretty shiny standing liberty quarter. ( date worn off) i went back over the hole and got a reading 32- 34 i stuck ny screw driver into the hole & poked around this really surprized me more because the next thing that came out of that hole was a old brass & copper hose nozzle u know the old twist on & off kind and it was large bout 6" long & thick not like the new cheap ones. passed the coil over the hole 1 more time & still got another reading of 34 a little more prodding and found a hex shaped copper lipstick tube (same basic hole) moral of this story is that when the quattro grabed hold of that quarter it pretty much ignored every thing around it untill i took it out of the ground. i was kind of impressed. pretty noisy yard with sod put in 1986. used the 10" double d that came with it ..............diggitdawg

I've been using a Minelab X-terra 70 as of late to do all my coinshooting and that machine with the 6" DD high frequency coil has been unbeatable combination in a trashy area. It will get about 7" and can seperate with the best of them. The X-terra 70 has a number of different coils available in different frequencies and its the only machine I know of that has that ability. And, very importantly its real light. With that 6" coil on its less than 3lbs total weight.

I am having tons of fun and success with the E Trac and a 4x7 excelerator coil. Open screen 2 tones ferrous. I can't believe what I've missed in my park area, that I found recently. Pricey though at around $1550.00.

A Garrett 250 with a 4.5 inch Sniper coil. There is also aprocedure you can use called "slow twitching". It takes a bit of patience. You have to scan painfully slow over the trash until you get a hint of a good signal - then stop and center the coil over that spot and whip it rapidly side to side no more than an inch each way. This will usualy isolate and separate a good target from the bad.

"Twitching" also works quite well on quirky signals or one-way signals that most would pass up. When you get a signal like that whip the coil rapidly side to side over the target a couple of inches each way and it will usually turn into a good signal and a good target.

It's the DD coil that does the trick not the detector. A DD coil throws a long narrow, wedge-shaped signal ( about two inches wide ) the full length of the coil. DD coils are designed for heavy mineralization but work well in seperating targets. They also love bottlecaps. I have a field test on one at losttreasure.com The Garrett 10x14 DD.

Bill is right on about the DD coil. I happen to swing a F 75 and would be hard pressed to think there is anything better for coin shooting trashy sites. Combined with the stock DD coil and the F 75's rapid target response, it simply is terrific for eking out coins among the trash. From one hunted hard and very trashy site the F 75 has garnered up over 150 silver coins for me in the last year and a half...plus 5 gold rings. And, the small coil available for it is excellent, too, and gets great depth. In many instances, deeper then stock coils on some other detectors. HH jim tn

I say the XP Gold Maxx Power, the best there is for target separation and there fore lower masking effect also!

Google XP Gold Maxx Power there are also videos on youtube.

It also uses a DD coil, 9".

Del, If I were buying a detector for this specific purpose, I would not spend a bundle. I know you have many of the detectors that have been mentioned here and as you know, they all have small coils available, so you could go with just about any detector. I have to agree with Uncle Willy about an Ace 250 with a sniper coil. I talked my buddy into this setup and it does a great job and has 4 to 6 inch depth, which is more than you will need. 250's sell in the 150 to 175 range used, but used sniper coils are rare. Keep it in the back of the truck and it is always there if the need arises. R.L.

Sovereign with a five inch coil. If you are not concerned with nickles a Fisher 1236X with a 5 inch coil.

Man the old King Cobra (original) not the Kellyco one was a dandy in these situations, but tough to find one in half decent shape...

Thanks guy's----What a great bunch of responses!---I appreciate every one of 'em and am sure every one of them is VERY effective.--Don't believe this one was mentioned--the 5.75 coil on the Vaquero/Cibola/Tejon/LST.--I've used that coil (concentric) on the Vaquero and found it to be very effective (just wish the Vaquero had tone I.D.)--Wonder if that coil in DD would be better yet?-----Thanks again to all, Del

I find this a very good Forum and I feel I can share my problem, right now I am in trouble.....
Can I file a lawsuit to get money back from my ex?
I would like to ask you some advise about my situation. I have known my boyfriend for 10 years. For the past ten years, I financially helped him to pursue his career. Now he became a pilot and he suddenly married someone else. He verbally promised me in the past to pay me back and now he emailed me about the news and also asking me to send him all copies of the reciepts to him for the debt estimate.

I honestly do not want to deal with him as he lied to me, cheated on me, used me to pursue his career and now he is asking me that I have to wait for his payment as he doesnt have money now.

I want to see if I am able to file a lawsuit against him to get my money back. It is not a small amount of money that I can just go to the small claim court. and I am emotionally hurted when I found out he borrowed my money to buy her a ring.

I use a Vaquero with the small coil, too, mostly becasue it's what I have. I can say that it gives a sharp target response, with lightning fast recovery. You also do not lose a lot of depth, if you happen to have a chance at deeper coins below the trash.

A small DD coil on something like the Golden or Ace 250 would be the ultimate ticket: enough ID features to matter, but light weight so you stay on the fly.

I've been pondering this and I have the answer: A Garrett 1350 with sniper coil. Here's why:

Multi-tone audio
Auto ground trac
Microprocessor DISC
Super fast, logic defying response speed
24 segment TID
Target size profiling

Run this baby at about 50% SENS and you're all set.
