A little update on the Tejon

This past summer we cleaned a small area in the park where a tree had fallen and allowed some brush to grow up around branches. Of course we hunted it pretty good with our meter machines and didn't find more than a few clad coins.

I went back several times with my metered machine and different coils and I got a wheat penny under a large plow blade.

Yesterday went back there with the Tejon and the small 5.75" concentric coil, disc 1 set to tabs, disc 2 set at screw caps. Wasn't there long and I got a signal and pulled out a clad dime and a penny out of the same hole. Before digging I marked the spot and called my brother over and he checked it with his metered machine and said he wouldn't dig it.

Could the Tejon have a little something over a couple of metered machines.

Yes - read mastering the TEJON and VAQUERO by Christian Thorsten. Down load from the Amazon Kindle site. Very informative and offers insights that are useful on most any detector.

Thanks BB,

I just finished reading that short book for the second time, I ordered it when I got my first Tejon and then I traded it off. So I bought another and just now getting back into it.

I had installed a tab check switch on my Silver umax which mimicked the Tejon's dual disc. I set it to where tabs would break up. In their owner manuals, Jack himself said the best way to hunt in tab discriminate was where they broke up- better depth. I discovered by using this that not only was there better depth you could still id tabs AND coins amid trash. So yeah, there's a difference. Last week I found quite a few coins with my MX5 and was curious to see what my Compadre would do in the same area. Several nickels, zincers, and a couple of dimes showed up. The White's easily gave signals, but the tone I'd was fooled. Hard to beat a Tesoro audio.

Interesting mod, I may have some pretty crud settings but I was still getting a few tabs. My little disc window seemed to work pretty good for coins.

I wish I had the dough for a Tejon. I really enjoyed the mod on my Silver. Didn't have to switch machines when I hit a trashy site.

Watch for a used one, I got both of mine for about half the cost of new and haven't had any problems with either. Once you get the basic machine you can add coils when you can save a few bucks or do some trading.

What hooked me on the Tejon was trigger toggle switch and the 2 disc, which just happened to be setup just like my old Fisher 1265x and 1266x. I really liked that setup.

That trigger toggle is the best thing since sliced bread.

...right around September and October. I noticed ebay prices on most used Tesoros had dropped quite a bit during those months, then went back up again...
Last year, bought myself a like new (flawless) gray Tejon for $250 and two like new Cibolas for under $200 each. If you're persistent in bidding only what you're willing to spend and keep your eyes open, you'll get one at a fair price. It's not like there's a shortage of any Tesoros. On the contrary; more and more people are unloading them, convinced that newer TID machines will find more... Prepare for a market flood of used Tesoros. I'm keeping my eyes open; still a few old Tesoros I want...

Haha better for all of us. I need to start stocking up on Bandido II Umax's and Silver Sabre Umax's ;)

Nearly every detector I have or have had came used from Ebay or private parties. While some recommend staying away from used, I have been fortunate that to date I haven't encountered any problems. My notion is if you buy them at a good price even if you have to put out a little for a repair you're not hurt much.

Makes me feel good to hear you say that!-----I just picked up those two detectors you mention this last Summer & early Fall.------They are in mint, mint condition.----Might have paid too much for them but hey---yah only live once (on this earth)!:)
