A little unusual post…

I thought maybe others would enjoy seeing this.
While driving home the other night i caught a glance of something crossing in front of me just before I heard a thump. I went a short distance and turned around to see what it was and found this little screech owl laying on the road apparently dazed, but still alive.
I picked it up and took it home overnight and then took it to the local wildlife center yesterday morning for a checkup.
I emailed the center this morning and they stated no broken bones, and no other injury except corneal scarring on both eyes and a slight retinal tear in one eye.
Hopefully it will recover and be able to be released soon.
I have never had any dealings with a wildlife center before am very impressed at the care they have given to this creature… they do not get any state funding and rely solely on donations and volunteers.
Thanks for looking !

You are good man Felix. Thank you for stopping to assist the poor little fella and bringing him to a veterinarian. He’s a cute little guy and hopefully he can be released soon.

That agency took swift care of that little owl. The amount of medical attention he is receiving is amazing!

"and I saw it's face :ROFLMAO:"

Reminds me of a time I came in from an evening deer hunt at my buddies and see that they're home from work with the wood stove burning in the hunt shack so I joined them. They had come down to the shack to put an owl they had just hit in the freezer, believing it to be dead, they were going to stuff it lol.. I inform them that it's a $10,000 fine to have a dead owl in their freezer for stuffing, ya gotta see it though its laying in freezer. I open the door and the owl is standing there not laying there, and just as I go to say....Bling !!...he opens his eyes  So I put on the stove gloves and got him out and set him in the yard. As I'm contemplating over the next 15 mins on how and where i could take it, 30 years ago before google, watching the owl starting to walk around I was thinking maybe he just got knocked out, after all they couldn't have been going to fast approaching the house on a gravel road, suddenly it takes off with great strength and lands in a big oak in sight. In what certainly would have ended its life being frozen to death, may have very well saved it by waking him up. After sitting in that oak for a few minutes it flew off to hopefully live out its life, after all these years i still think about that owl.

Good on you fwcrawford.

I’ve heard that owls get hit a lot, guessing because they fly low to the ground and often hunt at night. Strange I only hit one while driving literally hundreds of thousands of miles after dark in the country. It was like I hit a small bag of flour. Big burst of dust.
I took my son to a seminar about birds of prey and they had an owl. They had it fly right over the small audience’s heads so we could hear how silent they fly. You could barely hear it.

I showed my wife Terri your post and it really touched her. She loved your story!
She is an avid animal lover and in her law enforcement days many years ago, stopped traffic in Minneapolis to rescue a turtle on the road.
We have also had numerous rescue dogs over the years also. Thanks for sharing.

Don’t feel bad… when I went back to see what I hit (or hit me), I had no idea what it was until I rolled it over with my foot and saw it’s face!!🤣

That is quite impressive that she took the time to save that turtle!!👍👍
I hate to see one on the road… many people go out of their way to run them over…
