A little time out...

...I mean I got out today! I slept late, as my sleep schedule is never straightened out from working nights. Up and down all night, sleep all morning! Needless to say, by the time I did arise, there were fifty-hunderd things that needed doing before I could go out to play - SO I got a late start.

The first place I went to was one of the many vacant lots around our cities current urban renewal projects, "Toole Hill". The former site of a modest home, it's now just so much bulldozed landscape. Here's a pic:

Here you can see my little "Tecting Mobile" (aka, car) and my Tesoro Vaquero leaning against it. (the Vaq is the only 'tector I have currently with a sniper coil). I didnt find much at the place, as can be seen here:

First significant find was the spoon. It's backmarked "WM Rogers, Overlaid". Silverplate over copper, no doubt. The round thingy is a brass door knob or maybe some sort of finial, I dunno. At first I thought it was a big old nut of some kind, then I took a look at it and shoved it in my 'keeper pocket' when I realized it was,

A. Not a foil ball or "King Cobra" screwcap(the place was littered with such stuff)
B. Actually made of metal!

Thats a worn out old Hot Wheels car, a few pennies and a 1965 clad quarter rounding out the meager finds. I also found about half a dozen old jar lids - alas only the lids, no cache of coins below :(

After awhile I decided to try the 1350 and MAN, what a difference! The little Vaquero with the sniper coil is about as weighty as a bad thought, compared to the 1350. It's official - the Vaquero is the hands down winner in the SwingEase Contest. However the Garrett makes up for it with info, info, info. I am officially spoiled by the Garrett's TID.

I also felt that the Vaquero could go a little deeper than the Garrett, but not enough to matter here and at probably 80% of the sites one would take it to. So its a draw. Again the Garrett feeds you data, the Vaq just beeps, albeit it does it with a nice slow, sweep speed.

Finally, my love affair with the 1350 appears that it will need a sniper coil to make it complete. I had planned to get a sniper for the 250 and a biggie for the 1350 - but, I think Ill reverse that. Only John could swing that 1350 with a big coil for any length of time, the brute!

I could go on drawing comparisons, but by this time I was ready to move on, so I went across the street to this place:

Built in 1954 when the area school districts were consolidated, it has fallen on hard times, as can be seen. It's now just vacant and the school grounds are used by the maintenance division of the district for workshops and storage.

I was more interested in the out of the way places in the vicinity, as the whole parcel was once the city "green space". Most of it has been plowed and developed, but as H. Glenn Carson said, "(sic) You gotta look for the out of the way spots, the ones that have escaped the blade and the notice of others." I wish I'd a said that! By the way, what does the "H" stand for anyway?

Well, there werent much to be found and Lori was calling to see when I'd be done playing, so I opted to scoot home - hitting a little park along the way that just happened to be next to this site. Well, about the time I got in the swing - here comes the cops! Two of them, no less!
It seems that, since I had parked on the back side of the park, someone had called me in as suspicious. ME, suspicious! Im about as suspicious as a rash.

Well, once they saw that I was up to no harm, everything was cool. We had a nice chat, I was assured that I was okay being parked there and they went on their way - but not before I took the chance to give them my card and promote my efforts a little. Here's a pic of the card Im currently using

They thought that was cool and said they'd pass it on to their superiors.

By now I was flagging and in need of a fermented grain beverage, so I called it quits and went back home. I hope you enjoyed this little documentary and who knows what tomorrow may bring. Happy Trails,
"The Trash Man",

Hey, David: only English profs are allowed to use (sic). What's going to happen next - an epidemic of semi-colon's?

...well said, Prof! I never know what's going to spring forth from my fetid little mind (little being the operative word there). Hmmm, I wonder what is next? ;)

Interesting outing, looks like your weather is holding out as well. I tried mding today but the ground is frozen rock hard and my ice pick was just not cutting it today...have to wait awhile or get myself a jack hammer.

Cheers!

Luckily it is the South. WE dont suffer the seasonal extremes that some of you do. Still, Im amazed that you still get out and have a go...
