A little test for you, as curious....................

Here's one for you, on your next session after you've noise cancelled take a note of the SUGGESTED sensitivity, and how far you can push the manual sensitivity before it breaks up.

Then whilst in the same place, with the coil flat on the ground, lay the machine down so the control box is resting on its built in stand. Coil MUST be flat on ground remember, then press the noise cancel button again.

Repeat the above test with the sensitivity, and let me know what happens please.................

im confused on the first part. How are you doing the initial NC? coil in the air or on the ground? It's supposed to be done on the ground.

I've heard two schools of thought on this. I think the manual states that the coil should be in the air. I usually do manual sensitivity so I don't give it much thought. Nonetheless, I am curious what the results would be of this test.

Manual sez a foot or so in air. Sabisch says on the ground. There's arguments for each way imo.
I think most folks NC on or very close to the ground. I personally don't think it matters much at all except in rare situations.

Really, noise cancel should be done 12 inches above the ground and noise cancel has little if anything to do with sensitivity levels. Auto sensitivity tracking is done while in detect mode with the coil on the ground and moving is my understanding.

Minelab user manuals go back and forth on the recommendation. Sabich says he has talked with the Minelab techs and that it SHOULD be done on the ground, which is why he states to do it that way in his book.

Really? As regards where to have the coil for the initial noise cancel, thats up to the individual, but please try this little test before rolling out the "stock" responses, thanks.

Not taking a side here, but Andy stated at one of his Bootcamps that you should NC on the ground because that's where the detector operates.

Whatever on the NC, wait 3-5 minutes for a real Sensitivity reading. It will start at like 16 but then change later.
