A little Sand Fishing

Had a dental appointment at 9 am this morning. The weather man assured me that the temps would get up to some where between 65 and 70 this afternoon. The tide was to be dead low at 12:01pm.

Sounded to me like I needed to make a trip to the beach. Wanted to work the area down close to the water where all the soft sand had been washed away. Was hoping that just maybe a nice gold ring might need to be rescued.

Unfortunately the gold rings did not appear. I found one Tungsten Carbide ring and one that I have not been able to determine the metal content. It has some markings that I do not understand.

I found the usual pieces of junk jewelry and got a nice low tone on the Excal and found gold in the scoop. Got a 9.3 gram 14K chain and pendant. Sure did make my day.

The tide finally came back in enough to cover the areas that I wanted to concentrate on so I moved up to the border between the wet and dry sand and dug some clad. Got $4.80 in clad and the usual bunch of copper and Zinc.

Hey George, that ring looks like the real deal to me. Try an acid test, could be an unmarked payday mate!

Looks like you have a good friend there. She likes to find gold. Nice chain... KEN

George,
I'm Rod McDonald down here in Ladys Island across the river from Beaufort. I'm 78 years old and hunt 2 to 4 times a week on the beach with my old Excal, purchased at good old Kellyco. I was looking around at Finds and read your offering for "A little sand fishing".
The reason I'm contacting you is because while hunting yesterday at the park, I found the same small amulet that you did (only without the chain). Do you have any idea what that thing is? My friend, also a George in SC, has sent in a message to Finds Forums asking for info. Do you have any notion of what that thing is? By the way, I'm 78 and have been hunting since 1975. Thanks for reading. Rod

Great finds at the beech! Congratulations, that's a mighty fine necklace and pendant, strange that Rod should find one at the same time!
