Although you may be able to connect one or two other coils up to an Ace, I would strongly advise against it, as they are not designed to be compatible. At best, they will funtion to a degree, at worst and more commonly, you will destroy the electronics of your detector.

What have Newbies got to get discouaged about. They should have started 44 years ago when I did and detectors were in their infancy and primitive as hell with no discrimination, pinpointing, notching, ID, depth, no nothing. 
The machines of today are a marvel compared to the clubs I started with. Some cut their teeth on Army Surplus WWII mine detectors. Cute toon and oh so true.
