A little help

Confused

New member
Hey guys, I hope all is well. I have a couple of questions about the CTX. I went to an old house today and started to hunt around. I'm using coin mode and I also switch to Trashy Park mode I downloaded. My question is when I get a signal with the blue mark down in the corner and the cursor jumping around the 12 mark, (and I do mean jumping between 10.02 to 14.48 when I slowly move the detector around), what is it that I am actually looking at? I dig at a pretty strong 12.42, but half way down it disappears. What is that from? Also, when I get a dead tone and I look down at the screen I see the cursor at 12.45, but no sound. What does that mean? What does it mean when the sound blanks out? How do I use that to find? Ok, I had a few questions. Sorry. I'm just beginning, but I really do enjoy this. Thanks, Rod

When your machine locks on a target that has good numbers but no tone DIG it. I have found this while hunting civil war relics. I have also dug targets with really good tones but crappy numbers and most of the time and I do mean most the target has corresponded with either the number or the tone. We are all learning this new machine and as remarkable as the CTX 3030 is it will try and stump you if you let it. I myself when I first got my CTX could not believe the stuff I was finding at beat to death sites but targets like you described is nothing new to CTX owners that have used this machine for awhile. Dig then you will know for sure along with confidence in yourself and your machine. HH :minelab:

Keep in mind that, regardless of the amount of discrimination, the Smartscreen displays all targets. Generally speaking, if you are running an open screen, the largest target directly under the coil will provide the predominant audio response. If you are running with discrimination, multiple targets will appear on the screen, but the audio response(s) will be for the accepted target(s). TID accuracy depends on the sweep speed and signal strength of the targets. If you are getting a strong set of TID numbers but no tone when running with discrimination, switch to all metal and rescan the hole. If you hear nothing but "ferrous" sounds surrounding the area where you got the 12-42, chance are you are either sweeping too fast, or have too much sensitivity. Either can produce both an intermittent "false" high tone or false high conductive visual TID. JMHO HH Randy

Thanks Randy and Hershey.

Great post by Digger and Hershey! Auto sensitivity is you friend while learning this machine. The auto #1 is very very good and stable. A stable machine is much easier to learn on.
