A little help from you long-time Etrac users...

I'm having good success with this machine. I've really been working it and I seem to be getting better, if the amount of finds is any indicator. One question I have: can anyone give me a good explanation/comparison of "modes" vs "patterns?" Right out of the gate, I was loading modes, thinking I was using a pattern. Looking over Sabisch's book, I'm not finding any easily understood explanation of the two.

Patterns are the discrimination parameters (what you decide gets blacked out and what gets "whited") on the main screen. Modes are those discrimintation patterns PLUS the other settings. Things like audio, variablilty, threshold pitch, etc. Personally I just keep my settings the same and use TTF with one discrimination pattern and Multi.-Conduct. with another pattern. I only need to change my audio from Cond. to Ferrous and from Multi. to 2 tone.

If you decide to change to a different (say a pre-set mode), it will make changes to audio as well. I really didn't like that as it was giving me tones I was not accustomed to.
