A little gold, a little silver, and a mystery

Went to Oaktown a couple of days ago and found a 1912 Wheatie where I was hunting, but nothing else old. I was using a small 5" DD coil, so I was only getting about 6" or so max depth (although I was able to run the F70 in sizzle mode with the sens up at 90+

I went back to the same spot today with a larger coil and found more. A well worn 1910 Barber, a gold plated heart locket that's seen better days, a .925 sterling silver earring with black stone that lost it's post, and a curious coin thingy. It's marked "Sterling Issue 2Gr Fine Silver .999 1776 8528178" Anyone ever seen one of these?

Sorry for the poor pics, I goofed up the white balance :punch:

This place is worth a revisit, not too trashy and a nice mix of targets. Might even have to bring the Sovereign with the big coil and go real slow, there must be more Barbers there

Must be commenrative issue with a serial number

Whats on the back side. ??????????

Nice Barber and silver token-thingy Brian! I'd like to try a small coil and cranked sensitivity just to see what it was like.

Hey Jim,

I was very impressed by how well the F70 was running at this spot, as there were skyscrapers all around me, and never had one problem with EMI. With the 5" DD I had the sens set at 90 and even at 99 and it ran well (disc=6, speed=SL(same as JE mode on the F75), thresh= -9, nothing notched, 3H tones). When I switched to the stock coil, I bumped the sens down to 85 and left everything else the same. One thing I like about the F70 is that you can hear the ground matrix, almost like you can hear it zapping the ground as you swing at times. I've also been rechecking iffy bouncy targets in all metal mode and more often then not in AM/AT mode they stay in the low iron range around 11-12.

This is the first time I've been able to run the sens so high with the machine being so stable. One thing I thought was interesting is that towards the end of my hunt, the batteries started to die, so I swapped in a fresh set, and re-ground balanced (no other setting changes). The F70 wasn't running quite as stable on the new set of batteries. Very odd IMHO.

Brian
